Increase ride height

Featured Replies

Sooo, the road humps near me seem to be getting bigger and more frequent. My fabia elegance estate just scrapes the front bumper unless I go down to 2nd and go over at about 10mph. So the question is how do i increase the ride height by a bit front and back and is it expensive to do so and is it safe?

Just slow down as you do is the best idea and the cheapest and simplest,   thousands of other low vehicles must have to.

More expensive is,

Tyres with slightly taller sidewalls,  and slightly longer Springs & Damper, which has various issues to Gearing, Handling, Alignment and an effect

on your pocket.

Parts, Labour & Insurance Company being satisfied.

Maybe tyres & suspension £7-800 for new parts, then labour.

Maybe best just go very slow, or change cars.

you could try springs from the scout.... I'm not sure they are higher though...... I have to go over speed bumps at 1 mph ;)

These speed bumps must be massive! Mines lowered and it has yet to have a problem with any speed humps.

Buy a jcb and go dig em up?

I think the thing that is clear is that

'they keep getting bigger and more frequent'  because they are not working as Traffic Calming Measures

or to discourage routes as Rat Runs.

Probably because people were modifying their vehicles so as they did not need to slow down too much as they were ,

or the buy SUV's or 4x4 look a likes to cope with the Urban Jungle,  getting easily and quickly over speed humps and onto Pavements etc.

If you want to increase the ride height buy adjustable coilover suspension. However, if on standard suspension you are scraping the nose on the tarmac at normal speeds (up to 30mph, RAC recommended 20mph) then the speed bumps are illegal, should be reported and you will be due compensation. If somebody can be bothered to dig out the correct sizes of traffic calming measures then there will be something to measure against.

Speed bumps are bad for the environment as you constantly have to slow down and accelerate and use loads more fuel.

Ambulance authorities hate them too.

^^^ That as well as dangerous - people may be excused to think a car will slow down at a speed bump and attempt to cross the road (especially children) - not always the case I am afraid...

I think it depends upon the track of the vehicle and unfortunately the fabia has quite a narrow track i found with my previous octavia vrs there was never an issue however with the fabia it was a pain even before I lowered it. just drive it like a  yaris with the normal age driver circa 65 and you will be fine and enjoy when on open roads.

Since the eibachs jab have you been ok with speed bumps?

And was it a 20 or 25mm drop?

Speed bumps are also your local authority's way of "Spending" left over budget money, in order to get a bigger budget next year. Stupid unnecessary waste of public money on a futile exercise!

If I went over some of these at 20 the front would be wrecked. Part of the problem is the road gets worn down just after the bump and lowers the drop off on the other side. Well I will just have to go slower then and really P1ss off the peeps following. Hmm, I will have to wear a cloth cap too or maybe a trilby when driving lol. I cant wait to get old, I am gonna be terrible.

Get a Yeti

Eats speed bumps for breakfast.

Worth a Google, some eat springs for breakfast.

Skoda Yeti broken springs

Some cars are more about show, and need to go slow where necessary like anything else,

the clearance might be there,

the components are not Heavy Duty though.

I need to go below 20mph or it go downs too hard. Never scraped anything mind you.

Eibach Pro-Kit is 20mm all round but I did not take any measurements sadly... should have had!

Never had a problem with my mk2 vrs which was lowered 40mm or my mk1 now which has coilovers on. They must be some MASSIVE speed humps. As everyone has said, just go over slowly! in my 86 i go over at about 10mph as that very low, but not found one i cant get over yet! (touch wood).

Skoda have the answer it would appear,

if Autoexpress have the information correct from a Skoda insider.

The replacement for the Fabia MK2 FL models,  the New 'Fabia Spaceback' in the form of the 'Scout' model.

Surely the vehicle to tackle inner city Speed Humps.

george

EDIT PS.

sorry as usual i am mistaken,  AE says it will be a New Fabia Spaceback 'Outdoor',  so even better, more rugged!
