recently bought octavia advice on aircon please

Featured Replies

as it says in the title really,

purchase an otherwise great example of a 1.9tdi estate elegance, so still finding out some of the gizmos too be honest, however I may have an issue with the air con which as I have only had the car since last weekend I would really like to refer my concerns ( if I need to, of course to the selling garage ) BUT I don't want to appear or come across as a wingeing muppet especially if there's nothing amiss.........

cars has dual climatic control, with the AC switched on, AC shows on radio display and green light comes on, the air from the vents ''only just'' feels slightly cooler the without AC on ?

is there a temp range I should expect at the vents that I could check BEFORE I make a pr*t of myself ( or so that I have so reference in case I get 'fobbed off', which would be against my previous experience with the seller too be fair

many thanks for reading this I hope it makes sense

regards Dave

Have you made sure the displays show 'lo' as it could be in climate mode?

Make sure the "econ" light isn't lit and give it a minute or so to get cold, but yes, set to minimum it should be very cold.

HI yes the display shows LO on both sides and the blue indicator is lit under both temp selection knobs

No ''econ'' light ?

Many threads, including mine, on here at the moment about failed air con systems on the Octavia. The condenser is very vulnerable from stone damage, and the compressors are known to fail.

Synchronise the two sides of the climatronic by pressing and holding the AUTO button for a couple of seconds until the temperatures on the displays show 22 degrees, then turn the drivers side one down to LO. Both sides will alter to the same degree if the sides are synced. As above, make sure the ECON button is NOT on (light in the switch off). Give it a couple of minutes and the air con should be very noticably colder.

If the temperature isn't definately different whether the ECON button is on or off, there is a problem which can be expensive to sort out. Get the garage to sort it out under warranty.

Hi Mike, my car is a 2009 FL I've added pics of the controls and the radio display and I've tried what you have referred to, however I can't see a button marked ECON  !!, mind you I'm going out for another look ?

Yours is the same as mine. The button that used to be 'Econ' is on later cars labelled 'AC'.

^^^^ in that case what did the "AC" button become?

Very different to my 06 Ocatavia and yes I have a messed up Air Con system.

Looking at that first picture, I would suggest that AC is ECON on the later MK IIs.

You have the settings correct, so it should be fairly cold air coming out.

thanks for confirming I have set the controls correctly,

can anyone give some temp guide thus defining '' fairly cold '' please, I don't want to raise issues with the selling garage if I can't sustain them

You should be getting about 10-15c lower temp air than the ambient temp.

If there is someone near to you with VCDS they could scan the car and also monitor the vent air temperature.

Phil

It should get down to 7°C at the centre vent in ambient temps less than 35°C.

Yesterday the oustide temperature was 27c. I had the A/C on full pelt with recirc on and I was only getting 10c out of the centre vents.

Might book in for an aircon service at some point as it wasn't feeling as cold as it could be.

many thanks for replies advice etc

with the outside temp some 26 + degrees I tested the temp at the passengers air vent at 8-9 degrees with the car and the aircon having been run for some 10 mins into the journey ( didn't have aircon on full or the recirc option selected to be fair, I'm guessing this reading would be acceptable, air certainly 'felt' cold enough to be fair .........

The test is 7°C or less at ambient less than 35°C (just recharged, centre vent, a/c on max cooling).
