Change ISP for Fast Gaming

Featured Replies

Ohh my head hurts. I have read adslguide and ispreview till the cows come home and I still cant make my mind up.

At present Im with Pipex on a 2Mb uncapped connection. But I pay 33.99 per month. This is beginning to annoy me when others do the same for less. I mainly admin on a CSS server so reliability is paramount as is speed. I narrowed my list down to ZEN - but thats the same price, Plusnet - save money but recent negative reviews, and last F2S - cheaper but mixed reviews. Any gamers out there got an opinion?

Nildram would be my bet. They host the jolt gaming servers and they are very popular in the uk. Lots less hops between you and the server and the sales support and technical team are second to none.

Well I use plusnet and can't say I have any complaints, the service seems pretty stable, there's no limit, and the ping rate seems pretty good. I tend to get around a 30ping on most servers.

Interested to see what complaints you've heard though?

they are now packetshaping alot more are plusnet

This is targetting P2P use though; their priority still lies with fast online gaming. :D My understanding is the packet shaping does not (currently!) affect their Premier package .... I could well be wrong

Packet shaping you say? :rubchin: Tell me more....

I'm hacked off with ntl for a billing problem, posted here months ago and still unresolved ( ) and want to move to ADSL.

But I've noticed recently my P2P speed has dropped right down to ~30kB/s MAX, across all applications. Sounds like this packet shaping of which you speak... I haven't had any notification of a change to my service though the quality has clearly dropped, though since ntl have no problem billing me for services not even provided ( :shakecan: ) I shouldn't be surprised. Does anyone know if ntl packet-shape?

Then, which ADSL ISP should I use, main uses are gaming and P2P. Also want good usenet groups like a.b.dvd and a.b.movies, which I don't have on ntl. I don't mind paying extra for reliable service/lower latency etc, though presumably latency is specific to my exact area so that's anybody's guess.

Can anyone recommend a good 2Mb+, unlimited service?

Plusnet are superb and I'm on their 2Mb uncapped, low contention Premier service. No probs with my P2P and friends use them for online gaming and say they're fine. They also chuck in static IP, 250Mb of web space, a domain name and access to their Usenet server for
