Coolant temp sensor

Featured Replies

Hey guys,

I seem to have an intermittent problem. I have an 2004 1.6 fsi. If I start the car even when cold the main fan starts up almost straight away on high speed. It will stay that way for a bit then slow then pick back up again and go on like that for about 15-20 mins.

I have no management lights on but plugged VCDS on anyway and I got 2 faults codes.

1. Coolant temp sensor implausible signal

2 radiator fan 2 obstructed/jammed.

Obviously I'll replace the temp sensor as it's only a cheap part but does anyone know

1. If there is only the 1 sensor (can see one where the top hose meets the head).

2. There doesn't seem to be a bolt or anything holding it in so I take it that it's some sort of clip but visibility isn't great so will I need circlip pliers or is there a special way of removing them?

Cheers guys.

Ok cool wasn't sure if there was 2 sensors. A friend was saying there could be one for controller and fan and another for temp gauge so thought it would be best to make sure.

Are the Delphi ones ok?
