New regime to keep the Swirls at bay

Featured Replies

Well, after Chris (ChrisRS) and Alan (BlueR36) worked so hard to de swirl my car last week, I thought I had better try and keep it that way

So, first wash since the detail, went like this

Snow foam with Valet pro PH Neutral using my trusty Nilfisk pressure washer

Then a quick rinse and wheels cleaned with my 40th bday present off waveydavey :)

Rinsed them off, then washed the car using 2BM with my new buckets/gritguards and Megs shampoo

Also my new lambswool mitt had its debut

For the lower parts of the car I used my old mitt

Rinsed off, then dried with my new drying towels, a large one and borderless one using master&slave technique

All shuts cleaned, hoovered out and engine bay cleaned, then time to squeeze it in the garage (not easy with a nearly 16ft car!)

Thats it...

All ready for the Yorkshire meet tomorrow

If any of you pro detailer types wish to advise me on products or things I should be doing, regarding the wash process thats great

Im still learning, but I really want to keep the swirls away

I do need some more wax, as the Fusso99 hybrid has left a few hologram trails here and there, and could really do with something on top, so any suggestions for a wax also gratefully received

Thanks for looking

Damo

Glad you used the pressie to get something good for the car.... How do you apply it... Is it via the cleaner fluid bottle you get with the Nilfisk?

I also use the Megs shampoo been using it for a while and always gives a nice finish i feel.

I've bought a load of new stuff myself with the new arrival. :)

Cheers

Dave.

Yes mate, with that little bottle attachment. Fill it about a quarter to a third full and top up with water. Pop the very end of the lance off, and put that bottle one on.

I usally use gold class megs shampoo, but tried this wax tech or whatever its called.

Going to get some different shampoo though, dodo juice or something else wax safe.

Think we're both getting a little obsessed with the detailing :D

Looks pretty good!

I dont think you should need the Bilberry very often though. Just make sure you have a good wheel wax/sealant on those alloys and they should clean perfectly with a simple bit of shampoo from the end of the wash. They might need Bilberry every couple of months after crap builds up but its going to be gradually stripping the protection from the wheels each time so making them less easy to clean the next time. Get something thats well suited to the rims and use the shampoo (and save money!).

If the car isnt filthy then a foam can be overkill in many washes - just a good rinse from a PW will remove most of the muck that might cause scratches and swirls, especially as its nicely protected and stuff will come off easier.

When you get the hang of it then look at Optimum No Rinse, scare yourself (and freak all the 2BM washers on here!!) and then realise you could save hours and get perfect swirl free results as well. Its invaluable for washing a black car in the summer  ;)

Looks great Damo and a good write-up there too.

I'd agree on similar post above. Don't overdo it with the billberry wheel cleaner.

Have you got sonax BSD in your product line up?

If so, give the alloys a wipedown with this after the wash. I find that after this

routine is in place - the wheels jet wash clean quite easily thereafter - but i

only do low mileage and maybe don't  accumulate as much brake dust as some.

So i only Iron-X or use strong products on the alloys once every 4-6 weeks really.

Not yet fella, but its down on the list to get, along with some decent wax (as I would like to keep plenty of protection on, due to where I work with industrial fallout)

Thanks for the info
