Power steering woes, but on a 6n2 polo!

Featured Replies

Hi all, I'm normally in the Octavia section, but my girlfriend has just bought a polo 6n2 1,4 8v. As I understand, they're pretty much the same as fabias.

When we got it, the steering was pretty heavy, because there was little (but some) power steering fluid, strangely, no whining noise though. After a generous top up, its better but not great. This was a week ago and the fluid has not dropped, no have I seen any leaks.

I'm leaning towards this been a dying power steering pump.

Any help would be greatly appreciated, cheers!!

Hiya matey. Just so you now the 6n2 shares nothing with the fabia, its the later polo 9n that your thinking about, they share many parts along with the ibiza 6L.

The 6n2 power steering pumps do fail from time to time. Being belt driven the system is far less complex than the fabia to diagnose a fault and to fix.

It may be worth a glance at the steering arms. Check they aren't bent atall. You should be able to get a second hand pump from a breakers for less than £30. They are easy to change. Just make sure you have plenty of fluid to replace any lost in the swap.
