Scout underside rust ...

Featured Replies

I've noticed that after 4 years the underside of my Scout is looking a little untidy .... It's been a few years since I was scrabbling around painting under cars ! Is Hammerite still the treatment of choice ?

I've see a few local garages etc offering 'car undersealing' lately

Not sure exactly what is involved really, but might be worth looking out for something like that instead of doing it yourself

Do you mean the Suspension & Drive train Components corrosion rather than the body.?

Best get rust inhibitor on the Black Components showing rust and there are lots of Paint choices now that exceed Hammerite for performance but Hammerite Gloss

is still OK.

I would not be using Underseal on Body Panels, you have a 10 Year Protection Warranty, and any Corrosion Underneath needs checked.

Clear Waxoyl might be OK as it can be removed again, but really should not be required.

waxoil do an "underseal" which is like a black grease rather than the stuff that goes hard

My Scout is two years older than yours and looks about the same. It's looked like that for as long as I can remember.

I wouldn't worry, those suspension arms will still outlive both of us!

:-D Yeah it's just the suspension arms. I know they will last but I'm the kind of person that polishes stuff in the engine bay.... I need to paint 'em !!!

That small level of corrosion looks very normal for a 4 yr old car. I wouldnt be concerned about that at all. As Silver1011 has said, those arms will last forever.

I had a go at black hammerite on the rear arms on my Bora, it looked pretty good but didnt last longer than about 12 months then it started coming off.
