This bothers me quite a bit. 

Dont know but if you could it would be a dash out job and you would have to be careful as the airbag sits just behind that part.

Never a better moment for a dash out job right now as there are no doors, and no front window in the car as I´m repainting it ... but I am scared to start something which might in the end not change anything :/

You could just get a good second hand one a fit it while it is stripped out.
