What car would you get for

Featured Replies

<snip> We own a farm which I manage, dad says I can spend up to £42k.

I'd like a petrol now as I wouldn't have to pay company car tax every year so the CO level wouldn't matter, road tax is another matter but hey ho.

So this talk of a "company" car isn't really a "company car" at all in the real sense of the word - it's your Dad (who owns the business) bunging you some cash (of around £40k) in a lump sum to spend on a car which you will use (loosely) in work matters!! :D  The emissions and BIK don't actually come into it then?!

Therefore:

BMW- would prefer a 5 door and I'd like it to be a bit meaner looking.

M5 Touring it is?

  • I have. Impressive engine. Impressive lack of traction.   At around £38-£40k I think they are good value used at one year or so old.   Lots of fun to be had in the wet too, you'll get overtaken

  • I can't understand why they are still so highly priced. Round these parts they are like  German Cortinas (With unreliable electrics  ), even the postman's got one.   Leave obscene meaningless status

1st option for me would be RS4 or RS6. Followed by the M5 and the C63. What ever you decide on enjoy the journey. Happy hunting B)

C63 wins on sound

Don't be mad, you can't pay it off your house or use it towards a buy to let that'll give you an income for the rest of your life.

It's time to impress the neighbours. :D

Nones mentioned Boats n Hoes?

:p

Id personally go for an old 1972 Alfa Romeo 105 GTV 2000, naturally in Red :)

Who says farmers have no money

I've worked on the farm for 22 years, I have no kids, morgage is practically paid off and I'm looking to buy a buy to let. I made the farm a lot of money over the past 2 yrs so it's a bonus.

I'm not over keen on the latest RS4, it looks a little soft and there's no saloon version. The latest RS6 is nice but there out of my price range. The C63 AMG ticks all the boxes and sounds awesome.

The V8 AMG motor has to be one of the best sounding engines ever produced....

Sounds like the prefect justification to spend your money on a nice car

RS6 sounds great under full chat and I really like it as a good allrounder but I love the C63 sound. Reminds me of a spitfire a little bit

M5 Is a great car but no sound.

42k isn't really going to get you anything decent from the Porsche/Ferrari stable (except a classic).

There's a few R8's in the mid £40k bracket if you can stretch to that?

Are you going to use the car on the track or just for general honing around?

It's just for weekend use really with no track action planned so far. I'd like a a 4 door saloon ideally so I'm not limited taking people out. An R8 is maybe a bit too flash and if poss I'll try bring it in a bit below budget so my brothers don't kick off (they don't work on the farm).

The thread started about a £42,000 Company car.

So is it really just about a £42,000 perk for you bought with some Tax Efficient means, & not really a 'Company car' other than in name, not for Business use

unless your Business work is done at Weekends ?

Does it get or need Company / Business use Insurance etc.

Lots of fun to be had in the wet too, you'll get overtaken by all kinds of 4x4 stuff. :D

You see them at track days hooning down the straights, then pootling round the corners and going home early.

A8?

Or even better an S8?
