Fabia SDI non starter/no fault codes :s

Featured Replies

Hi folks,

Wondering if anyone has had a similar issue. We bought a great little Fabia SDI a few months ago and it's been a great work horse until this weekend. My Mrs came home from work on Friday with no issues and the next morning it wouldn't start :S

It turns over and attempts to fire, but it just smokes heavily and that's about it. I have checked for codes (none found at all), but have noticed 2 things i'd appreciate your advice on. 1) No power at glow plug buzz bar. Should there be, or is this because it's direct injection? 2) When checking measuring blocks as the engine is turning over, requested injection commencement is 6 degrees btdc, but actual is showing 0 degrees btdc?

My gut feeling is that the pump is at fault, but seems strange that no codes are showing.

Thanks in advance,

Jon

Anti shudder valve stuck shut?

Try unplugging the coolant temp sensor and then try the glow plugs. This time of year they don't come on as it isn't cold.

Cheers Trundle. Air intake flap defaults fully open when unplugged and responds to throttle input when plugged in which i think is correct. I did notice today that the barometric pressure with the ignition on is reading 999.6. Seems a bit high, but i can't find the sensor to check it?

999.6 doesn't seem unreasonable if that is in mbar.

What colour is the smoke?

The asv is also the egr valve I believe, is that what you mean by air intake flap?

Yes fair point, just seemed like an infinite figure (clutching at straws...) Smoke is white/blue, basically very badly burnt fuel. I have managed to get it to tick over tonight by unplugging the coolant temp sensor (new one on order), but as soon as you touch the throttle it miss-fires and doesn't rev above 2500. I've checked so far;

ECM connectors/pins

Fuses

Injection commencement valve

Intake air flap (what would be the throttle body on a petrol engine)

EGR valve - Cleaned and operating

Crank sensor

Needle lift sensor

Fuel system for damage/leaks

I would almost say it was bad fuel, but the car drove perfectly before it was switched off, so there's a gremlin somewhere.

Atmospheric pressure is typically 980-1030mbar.

Any chance the timing belt could have slipped a tooth?

There is a pressure relief valve in the injection pump which can come apart and cause problems.

Contaminated fuel in the end - Won't be filling up there again!

Thanks again mate.
