Right guys yesterday Fabia EML light came on but still drove alright however today it was juttery, really struggled and knocked a bit on start up also has a strong smell of petrol when stationary, worse yet went to overtake a Insignia and halfway through the move I lost all power and had to lift off and then put power on again to get past to safety! It then smelt like burning so I pulled over for a bit! I'm in the middle of nowhere with no diagnostics to hand, does anyone have any ideas what is up with the car and if so would it be safe to drive the car 260 miles home?

My advise as follows..

You are asking a lot being in the middle of no-where no tools etc.

Get your car towed/ drive slowly to nearest garage to get it checked out.

You cannot take the risk of being stranded a long way from your destination in a very faulty (could be dangerous) car..

Yes I realised that so called a garage out to have a look who said just get it recovered home! It's the sensible thing to do IMO
