2005 Octavia 1.9 tdi Keeps cutting out

Featured Replies

Hi all this may have been covered but can't any answers so here goes.

I have 2005 Octavia II 1.9 tdi and it keeps cutting out while driving then will not start again unless I leave it for about 5 minutes but when it does start again the mpg on the computer drops from mid 40's to mid 30's and tonight just before it cut out again its was juddering before it died once again it just cranks but doesn't fire up until about 5 minutes later, now a few months prior to this my wife put petrol in car and it cut out 1 minute later while in petrol station so I towed it home emptied and cleaned tank out, fuel lines cleaned out and changed fuel filter. Now since then I have been trolling forums to get answers I have autocom but its not showing any faults so I have started replacing things that people mention on forums as possible cause, so I have changed fuel pump in tank, fuel pump on head, crankshaft sensor, main ecu relay, fuel pump relay any help please this is driving me crazy thanks in advance

Any help guys

Checked wiring to crankshaft and camshaft sensors? Mine snapped and made the car have similar issues!

Check the under bonnet fuse box isn't full of water too.

Hi guys will be checking wire today also have checking fuse box for water no sign, last night I noticed the pickup points on the camshaft for camshaft sensor were bent a little so I replace camshaft with one I had lying around thinking that could be the problem but no luck it is still showing as a permanent error on autocom

someone please help I decided rather than look for a break in wire I replaced wiring from camshaft sensor and crankshaft sensor but fault code 16725 still present and still cuts out so I then changed camshaft sensor again and fault code is away now but still cuts out while driving and it has developed a judder just before it cuts out now what the hell is going on, next I will be changing the injectors and injectors wiring loom but me thinks it will not cure the problem any help would be much appreciated what else could be wrong

The trouble started immediately after the fuel system was cleaned out ?.

If so I would check the fuel pipes have been replaced correctly and anything else that was disturbed had been refitted properly. ie fuel filter.

The petrol would not have caused too much trouble as it was cleaned out quickly and not run too far.

I would be looking at fuel starvation as a possible cause. Is there anything in the tank that gets caught up in the fuel outlet and blocks it until the engine stops and frees it self again. I would check all the fuel lines/pipes for kinks etc.

And as I don't know what autocom is I'd get it scanned with VCDS just in case.

Intermittent faults are very hard to diagnose when they don't happen !

thanks for the reply bud, the fuel tank was clean out along with fuel lines and new filter fitted this has only been happening since then thats what makes me think it has something to do with that I have just fitted new injectors to it along with the wiring loom tonight but will have to wait until tomorrow now to see if it has cured the issue, autocom is much like VCDS lets me do everything like VCDS, the only think I find strange is when I put it on live data it says throttle position is 95.3% when only ignition on, I thought it should read 0% until you put foot on the accelerator pedal then it should rise so I am now thinking is it the throttle positioning sensor or module on the throttle body that is faulty any thoughts on that would be of great help where can I buy VCDS from
