New Octavia vrs

Featured Replies

Just took delivery of my new Octavia vrs with delivery miles and I'm driving it like an old lady as I think I need to run it in. Anyone know how many miles I have to cover before I can start driving it like a vrs? Oh yeah its the diesel, thanks

Mark

Checked the manual? I didn't bother 'running in'. Just drove it how I usually drive.

Don't run it in... Diesels are much better in the long run if driven hard (once warm) from day 1.

The manual says for the first 1000km (approx. 620 miles) you should not use more than 3/4 of maximum engine revs and no full throttle. Then between 1000km and 1500km (620-930 miles) you should gradually work your way up to maximum engine revs and full throttle.

I pretty much did this but then I was very much enjoying half throttle as I came from a Fiesta! haha. I didn't want to drive it hard from day 1 though. I will say though that after nearly 6000 miles it has loosened up quite nicely so far!

I picked up my brand new black edition day before yesterday and drove like an old lady too. It took me a decade to cover 153 miles and got 71 MPG.. I follow the user manual and try to run it in even though the VRS button on my console is missing, so not much fun there.

Your car looks brilliant.

Happy motoring.

It's not 1954!! 'Running in' Just drive it.

What Harry said.

Modern engines don't need running in (diesel or petrol) although careful driving in the first few hundred miles will do no harm either.

Just drive in normally & all will be fine.

Obviously bouncing off the red-line straight from cold is not recommended but once the engine is warm drive it as you want.

The thermal management on the diesel is quite impressive & its warms-up very quickly from cold so you wont miss much fun ;)

You won't have a VRS button unless you have a VRS.
