Anybody else on Internet Explorer 6?

Hi Folks

I managed to hit a key (not sure which) and now my "Open in new window" keeps arriving in reduced size that I have to maximise each time.

Any ideas please?

Thank you

Mo

Try maximising a new window then press and hold the Ctrl key when closing it. That works for the main window and may work globally for new windows too.

To add to DGW's post - I think you have to maximise the window by dragging the borders (not by clicking the maximise button) for it to work, please accept my apologies if this is not the case.

A bit long winded but you could also try:

1.Start IE, right click any URL and select Open in a New Window.

2.Go back to the first IE window you opened and close it.

3.Return to the second window and manually drag it to fill the screen - do not use the maximize button.

4.Close this second window, using the close box.

5.All IE windows should now open maximized.

That was what was bugging me - i.e. I recalled reading that one had to drag, then use File Close (not X), but forgot had to close primary window first.

I thought you just, open IE, click maximum, close and then next time you open it, it opens in maximum all the time.

Hi

It might well do, though you might be talking about a different situation? Mine was that the main window opened full size, but subsequent windows did not.

I look at it in the way that there are trillions of "niggly" things and getting rid of the worst ones means I can leave my Prozac in the cupboad :)

Thanks for replying  Could be that someone with better knowledge than I can put this into context, windows-wise.

An application that can open multiple instances of itself always has difficulty remembering its last saved position. Usually the last window closed has the job of saving the settings for next time the app is opened, but IE seems to have multiple settings. Advice would be to have just ONE IE open, let it open a new window, resize that manually to the size you want it (DON'T use maximise because that's a different window state - the non-maximised size is the one that is stored), and close it in a tidy fashion, maybe holding down the CTRL key meanwhile. Then do the same with the main window, and see how you get on. If this fails there might be some registry poking we could do, but I'd rather not get into that if not absolutely necessary.

I had that problem. Took the opertunity to dump IE and switch to Mozilla Firefox. Ok trouble with the odd plugin but for speed and userfriendliness it's hard to beat.

ditch ie and get mozilla firefox. theres only one website I know of that I can't use all the features of and thats the lottery one. Once you have this you can open one window and open all the other websites you want to view as tabs. Tabs are so good that microsoft have stolen the idea for ie7

I use both IE and Firefox now. Both are OK, but neither is better than the other speed wise (and thats on a 3 meg cable con).

Both have problems from time to time, and both need patching.

And there's a whole lot more sites that don't work with Firefox, but hopefully the numbers should decrease.

Isn't Firefox supposed to be a whole lot more secure than IE though?
