Useless advice from DM Kieth main dealer

Featured Replies

Hi - my 11 plate Fabia VRS uses oil. I bought it with 20k on the clock in June 13, full main dealer service history. I check my oil level at least once every 1000 miles. it has been using 0.75 litres of oil every 1000 miles which seems unacceptable!

Had the car in at DM Keith (Leeds) for all servicing etc since purchase, the oil breather mod was done in December 13 but didn't really make any difference.

I was advised (2000 miles ago) to wait for service then have an oil weight check done. I duly had the 40k service (£300) last Thursday, the service department told me to return the car after 350 miles.

This I have done, but now they want to charge me £140 today for "diagnostics" ((checking oil weight???)) and to re fill with fresh oil after the oil in there has only done 350 miles!!!!

DOES THIS MAKE SENSE TO ANYONE OUT THERE AT ALL??

I also paid £400 two weeks ago to Skoda to extend the manufacturers warranty for an extra year. The lady in service said if i don't want to pay the £140 today then don't get the engine checked the car home and wait for the engine to go in which case it will be replaced....

yours a formerly VERY HAPPY Fabia VRS owner

Cant offer any advice on what they have told you but they are known for drinking oil.

Check the owners manual and I think that they say that the car may use up to 1 litre per 1000 miles is within the limits.

I've seen that yes, but looking at discussions before it seemed like others were using much less. Otherwise to be fair it's the best car I ever had! If the Dealers had mentioned beforehand that it would be costing £140 I wouldn't have been so surprised/annoyed ...... But they just said "bring it in we'll sort it........." Also when I got a call from Skoda Uk later I was told it would have to be done AGAIN in a few weeks at another cost of £140. (( possibly refunded at a later date if car has a "problem")) None of this was explained by the dealer at all - if my consumption of 0.5 - 0.75 ltr per 1000 miles is totally normal then if it had been explained in a coherent way I would have accepted it and kept on with my checking/topping up. Their response to my query indicated that I was right to be worried. Anyway cheers for the response I've pretty much calmed down now :-)

The official figures are 1L of oil per 1000km 621 miles. The information from skoda states the dealer charges you for the oil and the time to drain and weigh the oil at a cost of £140. If the claim is successful and it's using more oil than stated you get a refund and a new engine. I have only ever done 3 complete engines in 4 years.

Got the Engine replaced FOC by Skoda which is great, unfortunately although not burning ANY oil in 1st (steady) 1000 mls it started leaking from turbo gasket. Ok back to get sorted, more days in courtesy car. Back 1 day, I discover it's leaking now from the gearbox. Back in courtesy car again .... Un sure now if I shouldn't have put up with oil use age, will update in another 1000 mls! Can't fault Skoda service / good intentions but feel like it's going a bit wrong ..........

I can happily state that after covering 6000 mls so far on the new engine IT HAS NOT USED A DROP OF OIL SO FAR. once we got the couple of leaks sorted it's been fantastic with the new engine such a dramatic difference....

Thanks a lot to Skoda UK and also DM Kieth Leeds who despite the fact I almost moved in there for a month or two they did sort evrything out.

Just seen on a seperate forum that the DSG gearboxes were supposedly recalled to change oil from Synthetic to Mineral.

Anyone else had this as I may have been overlooked

And the oil is due to be changed anyhow.........

Love my VRS - it's back to being the best car I ever had and still get a buzz from driving even after two years of ownership
