Help cooling fan will not cut in

Featured Replies

Hi I had to change the rad on my 1.9sdi fitted new one filled the system back like that Hayes manual said to do.I had the car running for over 30mins temp gauge gos up to 1/2 way and will not go any higher so my fan can't cut in . But the heating is working in the car all pipe are same temp thou the system I turned the car off top the coolant back up to max but I don't know if I have done it right

If the temp guage isn't moving above 90c (about half-scale if the guage isn't calibrated) then the engine isn't getting hot enough to trigger the fan.

You really have to work an SDI hard to get the fan to cut in. Running it at tickover it will disperse enough heat to keep the temperature down, unless, of course, the ambient temperature is 40 degrees C.

My Fabia 2005 VRS temperature gauge usually only ever reaches 1/2 up the water gauge and not aware of any of the 2 fans kicking-in..

Cheers for the help is it ok to use thou as I want to mot it tax and drive so I can say good by to my polo need bigger car

As said- all diesel vehicles need to work to get warm . I've never heard my fan come on , in any weather in mine, and we used to find that even transits didn't stay hot on idle for long( PITA on long stanbby night shifts as we had to take them for a runafter a couple of hours to get some decent heat back in the engine. ) . If you use it, keep an eye on the temperature gauge and the heater output. IF the gauge moves either way, check to see if you've still got hot air from heater, as on most cars ,the heater is first to be derived of coolant.  I can't find any mention in Haynes of switching for the cooling fan ,but I'd imagine there's some way of shorting out the switch controlling the fan to test the fan .i seem to remember on other makes the fan was controlled by a switch on the radiator.
