25 or 28mm RARB, opinions and options?

Featured Replies

I am looking to get either a 25 or 28mm RARB as I've managed to get a 25mm FARB (Whiteline iirc but need to check).

Does anyone have any opinions on which one I should go for? Car has to remain drivable around town and on the motorway, but also suitable for the twisties and hopefully a bit of AutoX at some point soon.

My other problem is, I am struggling to find places selling these RARBs on their own, as opposed to in a kit!

Car is currently sat on Koni Sport shocks with -35mm eibach springs.

You need a bigger arb on the back so as you have a 25mm front i would say the 28mm rear. I had golf r32 23mm front and neuspeed 28mm rear. Handling was greatly improved. Arb's will not affect ride (thats springs and shocks), they reduce body roll.

Is there any chance that by going for a heavy RARB (or FARB for that matter) it will stiffen the suspension up?

I know the theory is they affect cornerning, not normal dampener action but I wonder if in practice they do affect it.

wtb 28mm rarb :D

Won't be any stiffer in a straight line because both ends of the arb will be going up and down the same. When cornering the arb will try to bend due to outside suspension compressing and inside extending. The arb resists this and helps keep the body flat and thus suspension geometry more constant.

picked the front ARB up for £20, rear looks like it will cost over 10 times thats! :(

Why bother upgrading the front one. That will just cause more understeer. The rarb reduces the understeer.

From what I understand if you go too heavy on the back but not the front then you risk the back end snapping round suddenly and uncontrollably...

rule of thumb is must have bigger RARB to FARB else as mentioned you will dial in understeer which you don't want.

so typical rules are:

STD FARB = Whiteline 22 -24mm RARB or 25mm Neuspeed RARB (or equivalent)

23mm FARB = 25 or 28mm Neuspeed RARB (or equivalent)

25mm FARB = 28mm Neuspeed RARB (or equivalent)

I have R32 23mm FARB with 28mm RARB which is great balance

if you have picked up a whiteline FARB, be careful you have the right one as the FARB normally is for Golf fitment that uses hooped FARB over drive shafts and not  the VRS/Audi TT/S3 , Seat LCR , Golf R32 set up.

ah just read your post you have a TDI........ :D  then probably have the right FARB then

Yep, It is the correct FARB for my car. I think that the reason I got it so cheap is because it won't fit GTIs, VRSs etc etc and only the slower cars :P
