  • A good track car does not need to have lots of power, it just needs to handle well and be lots of fun. A normal car driven properly on track can embarrass many faster cars driven badly.

  • Having a bit of back history of ownership of some of the above and track daying most of them you can't go wrong with the old Clio's. I had 2 x Valvers, 1 Williams and 2 x 172 sport.(check my photo up

  • you could just buy BossFox'smk4 Ibiza 1.8T   http://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/314661-seat-fr-18t-spares-or-repair/?hl=%20ibiza%20%20fr   fix the power steering get the airbag fault cleared. m

Yup BRM came with LSD.

Rover 218is is also a good choice. Vi suspension but with the none VVC head so 120bhp.

I'd opt for something dirt cheap so a crash or dent doesn't upset you. As much as an expensive track car would be nice, I'd be pretty upset if I wrote off a £6k R32 compared to a £1k consumable shed.

Something like an e36 would be ideal IMO - and an early one will have an LSD too instead of ASC. The E30 crowd are building the M52  engines from the e36 up to 3-3.3 litres with M54 parts which makes them good for 270bhp IIRC! Which means it might not even need to start as a 328 either, so you can possibly get a cheaper model to start with.

The body shop my E30 is at had a Williams Clio for sale for £1,500. I had a drive and it seemed great from the short distance I drove it (although the seating position's not for me). I seriously considered buying it for track fun, but I think I'd be a bit gutted if a binned a rare phase 1 car...

Probably a draftsman / designer like me, got called scribbler at my previous job and its stuck. I never had a Peugeot that was darkside I was in cliosport club. Always fancied a 1.9 205 gti though, In my opinion the last good Peugeot. Never been in a 106 but they were too close to the saxo which I had which was awful compared to the clio's. The 306 gti6 was ok but still never recaptured the 205 former spark. Don't like any of the new ones although that rcz could be ok if they stick a decent engine in it.

haha, i nearly messaged you when i saw your username yesterday! hows things?

Anything with a Renaultsport badge is fun on the track, and useable on the road, don't forget the ugly early RS Megane.    A few bits might fall off now and again but not the important bits.
