Fault Codes 16795 & 16396

Featured Replies

Hi,

Can anyone assist with a possible explanation on the above codes please ? They are occuring at regular 4 cold start intervals, either singly or together but the car is running fine. I replaced the SAi pump with a resistor some while ago which has been  fine  and have also fitted a new camshaft sensor,  carried out an engine flush and also replaced the oil pick up pipe so am now at a loss as to why these are both occuring. Having searched on here it would appear the two could be related/connected because they're both involved in an initial cold start but I am not sure where to go next with this. Any suggestions gratefully received.

Thanks

Hi,

Thanks for the response, appreciated. Have read the Ross Tech explanations but none the wiser as to the root cause, seems to be one fault code after another at the moment which is disappointing as the car is brilliant in all other respects.

As the sai system tends to link in with camshaft advance when cold, it could well be the chain adjuster creating both codes. When was the oil pick-up pipe renewed - if ever?

The oil pick up pipe was renewed about two weeks ago, along with an engine flush as I've read that low/poor oil pressure can be the cause of the camshaft fault. As you point out, both the VVT and SAI are involved in the cold start process hence my suspicion that they're linked. Will have a read up on the chain adjuster, a process of eliminating one thing at a time I suppose.

Thanks

I have changed one of these on my son's LCR a few years ago, and you really need to either make a tool or get a cheap real one to hold the tensioner compressed when you refit it otherwise your neighbours wont like the new words they hear over the fence :D

Thanks, had a read yesterday and seemed to involve an awful lot of hassle and dismantling, without really knowing if that is the source of the fault.  Not sure I want to go there just yet,  would sooner source another SAI pump, stick that in and see if it makes any difference. Had both faults show up together today so am deeply suspicious of the SAI, i've only had these fault lights since i got rid of it.

Has the resistor opened up or malfunctioned?

It's a possibility I suppose although it was only changed recently when I thought the original one had failed. That turned out to be a disconnected sensor elsewhere . Will be worth changing I suppose given it's a cheap and easy fix, it's the camshaft fault code that bothers me the most. Cropping up regularly but doesn't appear to be affecting the actual running of the car, although I might be doing damage, I don't know.
