Aerial problem getting to me now

Featured Replies

Has anyone got or had aerial issues on there pre fl octavia?

My problem is that I had a stream and the radio worked fine ok was bad in some areas but now chaned to a columbus it's worse :( it drops off all the time and u have to touch the screen and keep changing the channels to get it back :( it's gettin to the point where the columbus will come out if there's no solution,

Has anyone has the columbus units aparts? Is there summin in there that can be changed or soldered if it's weak or faulty?

Any help guys :(

I have a pre-fl with a Columbus.

Radio reception is fine.

Did you install the adapter on the aerial connector when you fitted the Columbus?

Nah plugged the single bit in to the fm bit! I am waiting for an adaptor the 2 into one, and tempted to order new aerial

That may be why.

The Columbus normally relies on 2 antennas so only having one connected may be affecting it.

Radio reception is rock solid on ours so I wouldn't bother getting a new aerial just try the double adapter first.

The reception was always poor on our Stream MP3 but much improved on the Columbus.

I also have the latest firmware with RDS support.

Are you sure you connected the single connector in the car to the correct one of the double connector on the Columbus?

It should be on the one nearest the GPS plug.

You can check without taking anything out. Hold down 'Setup' until the 'Radio' menu appears. Press 'FM' on the screen and you'll see which antenna is connected. It should be antenna 2.

The other one is for AM/FM reception.

In that menu you can also see the very variable strength of the radio reception for any specific station (press < or > to skip from preset to preset).

Could also be coincidence, but you might have water ingress into the aerial base which may be corroding it.

There's been mixed opinions on the effectiveness of the 1 into 2 adapters for the Columbus. Some work (i.e. Show that both are connected, remove the 'Open circuit' fat in VCDS scans, etc.) but few (if any) actually improve the reception to any extent.

I've ended up going with a completely custom dual aerial instal (with no roof mounted aerial) for my Columbus & per-FL estate.

nah came from eBay a company called radio world the 2 into one . A nice fit on the columbus :)

Ive just ordered that. I set yp all stations at hone on the drive, .5 mile away and they all go fuzzy. My stream was perfect. Doesnt overly bother me as i use my phone via parrot but the missus uses it.
