A couple of little issues...

Featured Replies

Good Evening All,

I have just joined the group following a web search.

As i can see, you are all very experienced, i'm hoping that you might be able to share any information that you may know.

So, here are the few little issues i'm currently experiencing with my 2011 Superb Hatchback.

1) The Tailgate has stopped opening and causing the Alarm to activate. The car has an extended Warranty approved by Skoda but they have said that the warranty would only cover the mechanism and not the wiring. Has anyone else experienced similar issues?

2) I'm using the car to tow a caravan. The car is awesome in general and has had brilliant write up's on the Estate model (mine's the Hatch). I do notice though that since using the car for towing, the car now squeaks on the front suspension. Any idea's?

3) I've had the rear tyres "Feather" and this has caused rumbling inside the cabin. Is this common?

I'd really appreciate any advice from anyone.

Cheers all,

M

1. You have a twindoor? If you get the car checked with VCDS/Vagcom it can throw faults on the actual motors or the wiring. If it's the motors, go back to the dealer, and demand they fix it COMPLETELY under the warranty. If it's the wiring, this is a well-known issue and there's a guide on how to fix it HERE. However, I would also let the dealer take care of it, under warranty. Don't let them fob you off about a partial covering!!

2. Suspension squeek is not something I hear about regularly with the Superb, maybe try spraying some lubricant spray onto the front struts/rubber covers to fix it?

3. With "feather" do you mean sawtoothing? This drove me nuts on my car for a while....4 new Goodyear Efficientgrip Performances and getting the tracking checked with a Hunter-rig fixed it. The Superb should be a very VERY quiet car, so if you are annoyed by this it will already be very loud. If your tires are nearing the end of their life, consider changing them. I know some places offer to cut off your tires (eg. removing rubber so the little edges are flat again), but I think I'd rather spend money on fixing the cause (tracking) then eliminate the effect (sawtoothing), otherwise it'll just rear it's ugly head later on.

An ex-colleague now working at a Skoda dealership says that they adjust the rear camber to near upright to alleviate the sawtooth issue

Your dealer will (actually it sounds as though they already have) try to wriggle out of the boot wiring warranty claim.

Put your foot down. This is a well known and well documented issue with the Twindoor, Skoda UK know all about it.

There should at least be some goodwill forthcoming here...
