And mine online, don't normally but as the PO won't be taking any cash off me this time thought I'd try online.

It's not needed from Oct anyway, the disc that is, will become obsolete.

At least I get a month's use out of it....

Indeed, great isn't it. Although I feel I can't climb to far up the soap box to complain about pot holes now.

 

This might make you chuckle..when my tax disc renewal came I put it off. I'd totally forgot it was £0. So imagine my pleasure on the 23rd to find that out Still seems odd to have to fill it all out online still and be posted... roll on October.

Feel free to complain about potholes all you like, Colin. Vehicle Excise Duty has nothing to do with the upkeep of Britain's roads.

I think I've discovered the real reason for the switch....

 

When you sell a car, it comes with a "tax disc" - which you can use.

 

In the new regime. You can't transfer tax disc between owners.... ker-ching.

so if I tax my car today, for a year, and then sell it next week, the new owner has to tax it again? Do I get to claim the unspent portion of the tax?

Yes. But it will be full months repaid.just it is now when you go for a refund on a disc.

You can tax your car today and sell it tomorrow with tax or next week or the week after, it's from October the new regs come in.

 

From October if you sell your car with tax on it they automatically refund you the remaining tax and the new owner has to apply for the tax. As I understand it if it's mid month you are back dated to the start of the month, as of course it is now.

 

Just had my last tax disc ever come through the post today, it's staying on the car until it expires (providing it's legal to do so, don't see why not) get my money's worth out of it even though it cost me nowt then I'll frame it.
