Rear vRS caliper strip down

Featured Replies

Hi all

I have a set of rear, mk1, vRS calipers for my Fabia SE. They're standard green but i want them powdercoated red to match my original calipers.

I've stripped them own as far as taking the pistons and seals out and taking off the spring and handbrake lever but to have them power coated i need the handbrake actuator and seals out. I have a rebuild kit with the correct seals but i'm struggling to get the actuator out.

I know i need to remove the circlip inside and refitting will require a press but i've hit a brick wall with the removal.

I know JJ at R-tec in Liverpool can get these out but i'm unable to contact him. Has anyone on here done it or is able to do it for me for some beer tokens?

I know the normal practice is to replace these on a like for like basis but i want them done red so this is my only option.

Cheers

Kevin

Circlip is a pain the get out. Try using some 90degrees long plyers.

What's the press for? I didn't use one.

I had read you need a press to get the actuator back in place.

I've tried my circlip pliers - i have a good set - and can't get anywhere near the clip. I had read online that JJ at R-tec had 'modified' a set of clips so that they worked.

Have you got any tips for me if you've managed to do it?

Pulse links to eBay for the ones he used.

Cheers for that, i'll get myself a set and give it a go.

They're longer than the ones i have in my set, wasn't sure if longer would reach or be too thick.

Well i bought those circlip pliers and picked them up this morning from the Post Office depot. I came home tonight with the calipers and within five minutes the actuators were out.

It's amazing the difference having the right tools makes.

I'm going to take them down to the powder coaters tomorrow then attempt to rebuild them

Great news. How much are they charging out of interest?

Don't know yet, i took them today but couldn't remember what colour i chose last time (there's about 25 shades of red) so i'll go back down on Tuesday with ny own car and check then.
