front brake caliper rattle

Featured Replies

Anyone experienced this and is it an easy fix?

Rattle going over bumps coming from front drivers side wheel,

Rattle stops when I touch brake pedal so I guess its caliper/pads rattling.

I'm fine fixing many things on my car but have never worked on brakes before so any advice appreciated.

I've came across similar with a Toyota, the brake caliper slider pins were worn thus allowing the caliper assembly to move diagonally in/out just enough to rattle.

As well as the above, Spurious pads, if fitted, can be slightly smaller than genuine pads, this can cause rattles like you describe, also if where the pads sit is worn, this will have the same effect

Here at the Volvo dealer we have a tech bulletin that mentions a special grease to put on the pad edges to stop the rattle

just to say , when I took the caliper off for a look , one of the brake pads had broken.

the pad had broken off from its housing.

so new pads on and im rattle free now !

Once you get used to the noises, you can realise that it is not always ££££££££ to fix a simple problem...............................experience............................
