volume on Columbus

Featured Replies

Can someone advise how to normalise volume when changing from radio to sd card/ hdd. When I change say from radio to sd card or vice versa the sound it much louder on radio than sd card.

What program did you use to get your mp3s onto your SD card? It could be that you had negative gain when converting your files?

I use mp3 Gain and use the default gain of 89

Thank but hinking about this surely the gain on the sd card would only normalise the sound on the sd cardand have no reference to theradio sound as I would not know what the gain is on the radio, therefore when I switch from sd card to radio wojld tge sound volume not be constant?

My assumption was that for a given volume on columbus it would apply the same gain for each media source that you select.  So if you turn the volume control to 50% then it applies the same gain to SD card and radio.  So if the radio sounds much louder than the SD card, then somehow the mp3 encoding has had some muting applied to it.  Or if the SD card music is a lot louder than the radio then too much gain has been added in the mp3 encoding.  That was my theory anyway, since all of my media sources (CD/SD/Radio) sound about the same volume.

I found by going to

Setup,

Media,

AUX input level,

LOW

seemed to sort it out for me with mp3 files on an SD card and also the AAC files on the ipod.
