Heres a thought with regards to fuel costs

Featured Replies

For whatever reason fuel costs are going skywards. It could be the Hurricane, it could be China, it could be swindling stocks, whatever, think about this.

For years the goverment have been saying about much we should use public transport, thats buses, trains, trams, underground. So how many active drivers do we have in this country? 20m? What happens then if 15m over the course of a year switch to public transport?

Just a thought really. :)

the government lose loads of revenue from fuel and so bump up tax's on someting else to re-coup the loses :)

the roads would be nice and clear for me to travel around LOL

But think of how many jobs are connected to the motor industry, you will have dealers gone, petrol stations, garages, motorfactors, oil companies would leave, we would be pretty screwed for cars again.

Also, is the public transport that we have ready for an extra 15m people using it everyday to go to work? Go shopping? Go into town? I doubt it. It would collapse. We would have another train disaster as they would be running too many trains too close to each other, the what? Line closed for days again and business losing out as people cant get to work.

It would mean choas on buses as there arent enough trained staff to drive them, plus they way it is going each bus and train will need a security guard soon.

Cycle lanes would be used more, suddenly you have a huge market for bike spares needed and repairs need doing to them. How many cycles can companies actually make in a short space of time?

Maybe us moving to public transport would be a great idea.
