Can I get a security code for an RCD 510 that wasn't standard?

Featured Replies

As above

Bought a Skoda Fabia with an RCD 510 that's been fitted in after purchase and didn't get a security code for it so was wondering if I was to pay Skoda a tenner to retrieve the code will it be successful?

Thanks in advance

Was it secondhand? If so have you taken it out to check? Usually sellers write the code on the outside

Merchants on eBay will do it remotely for £10.

Skoda will want about 3 times that!

I got my code from my local dealer for free  :)

My local dealer refused to do it FOC for my original fitted stream when I upgraded to Maxidot so I went onto ebay and had one within the hour and paid £7 for it.

Skoda wanted £25.

Not sure if its second hand I bought the car a few weeks ago with it already fitted and remember the guy telling me they fitted it in after they bought it initially

I've been to the dealer and I'm sure they quoted me a tenner to get the code but did mention that it may not work which is why I've asked here if the code will arrive?

If not I've seen someone on eBay do it for £15

Not sure if I should just pay £170 for a bluetooth add on or take it out, sell it and replace with a good double din stereo

There is a minor issue with the "eBay" solution: they can only tell the original code from the serial number. If the unit has had it's security pin changed in the past (under similar circumstances),  then they're of no help.

When the car and head-unit are paired, you're actually coding the car to the stereo. The stereo remembers this coding. If you change the unit over (e.g. for a Columbus), when you come to sell the car, you can take the "new" unit out, and put the old one back in. Better head-units are always worth more separately than if sold with the car. My hatchback Octy took all 3 of it's head-units back through with no problems. :)
