I really don't think this is normal. Do you have a part number for this item? Due to ageing, high temps and pressure it is about to snap IMO

... This should be done ASAP.

L. E. : do you have any idea if mk 1 can connect to a vw double din unit, such as delta6/rcd200 or any other mfd? I went today to a repair shop and they told me that even delta 6 will not power on without a canbus connection, which is pretty weird for me.(and they do not recommend any mods including connecting to the car's can bus link). Does this make any sense to you?
