cam belts

Featured Replies

hi everyone needing advice regarding replacing cambelt and water pump on my new to me 2003 Octavia 1.9 tdi 110 bhp Laurent/klement .only done 56000 miles last change 2007 cant find any evidence of a later change. so feel it best to change now for safety.the question is can anyone recommend a manufacturer or make for the belt and pump. been down the road of buying cheap made after parts for my Renault traffic so don't want to be going down that road again too many painfull problems. thanks in advance for any help.regards. :sun:

The euro car parts stuff is quite good! Used it twice now! Not sure if yours is the same but if you have a plastic water pump just specify a metal one!

The kit for the VRS was about £180 iirc

Double check this is the right one but http://www.eurocarparts.com/ecp/c/Skoda_Octavia_1.9_2005/p/car-parts/engine-parts/belts-chains-and-tensioners/timing-belt-kit/?348770475&1&f9f7476bd78c271bc099548281f1bb23255b3bf6&000332

as being new to skodas no idea if it is a plastic pump so good tip thanks,i have heard gates cam belt kits are supposed to be good, but not sure anyone have any thoughts on that brand please/

Gates are fine

thanks for the advice and links all you skoda owners much appreciated.cheers

interestingly, i got my cam-belt, water-pump changed today along with full service -

162000mls - last change was done in 2009 at 98000mls.

mine's an 04 90bhp diesel.

Went main dealer, as I know the guy in the service dept, and they didnt rip me off.

+ i know all the fluids and filters changed along the c.belt etc are genuine oem parts.

When i rang about it at the 50k mile service i was expecting then to be told it was due the belt,

and they told me that Skoda had extended the change intervals, i was good til 160k with it being done at 98k

4 years or 60k...has been that way for years?

When i was inquiring last yr (at the 150k) i read 5yrs 50k mls....

tbh, I could've been reading something for the Sdi or some other variant without realising it at the time...

it made me a happy bunny at the time, not happy bunny when i realised it was now due!

ah well, i somewhat doubt i'll still have the war horse in another 5yrs / 60k!!!
