Advice sought: Buying 2009 model Yeti

Featured Replies

Hi - looking for some advice from Yeti owners. I live in Morocco and am about to purchase a car. I've narrowed it down to either the Yeti 2.0 140hp 4x4 (here called the "Experience" model, I think that's SE in the UK) - it's the 2009-2013 model, as the new 2014 model is not out here yet and won't be for six months.

The alternative is the new Nissan Qashqai 2014 - which looks much better than the previous model, if not perhaps quite as refined as the Yeti, and has some more modern conveniences like Bluetooth.

Basically - the question that I'm trying to answer, having seen so many positive reviews of Yetis, is whether it's ok to buy the older model. Any insight appreciated (this is my first car purchase, as I've never lived in a place where I needed one before).

How about a 170

Not considering it for budget purposes - this model (the cheapest of the 4x4s) is already quite discounted, making it in the same range as the Qashqai.

The Yeti is a good sound car and going for the original design should not put you off, as the new look still uses the same mechanicals underneath.

However try go for the newest one you can afford, as unseen improvements to the cars components go on all the time.

Also the best advices i have had around buying any car is -

- Have a test drive at least 1 hr around town & fast roads

- Do you like it overall, drive & looks - (Head questions )

- When you get in & are actually drive it does it feel comfortable & you could live with it day to day ( Heart felt)

If any of the last 2 give any doubts then, do not buy as you will come to the car always with that little niggling irritation that will after around a year have you regretting you bought it.

Take it to an independent garage and get a full inspection for €100 or so; then use the information to haggle the price down.
