1.9TDI 90bhp Which oil?

Featured Replies

I have searched high and low in this section but keepo getting vRS results :(

If there is a thread in relation to my question can someone link me please, failing that what oil do you all recommend for the 1.9TDI 90bhp unit?

Cheers all.

Do you have old service bills? just it strikes me that the previous owner is the sort who might have kept them, and they may say something like "4l $brand_name oil".

Personally, I use synthetics, because the turbo in the 1.9TDi is boosting from ~1400revs.

Something fully synth that meets at least 505.00. I used to use GSFs own brand stuff in my mkI.

Id go with a 5w40 fully syth oil

Yea he most prob has somewhere, but he is in hospital at the moment and sounded like he will be going into a home due to dementia. The family are sorting through his stuff etc and car being sold was one of those things. They have my details should they find it though. The owners manual service book etc I have all the MOT certs as they were kept with log book and a haynes manual. for the majority of it's life it was serviced by his neighbour who is a mechanic, so wouldn't be much to find anyway with regards to receipts.

I used to have a neighbour like that; he was also Chief Police Mechanic for Dunbartonshire, and would have responded helpfully to a telphone enquiry.

Holy smokes! Good on ya for keeping the book all stamped up with the dealers! Mine will have to slum it for self servicing on the drive. I still have 3 litres of 5W30 in the shed from servicing the ZT 3 or 4 months ago :D

Plan at moment is to sort a couple of other bits then when I am happy it's belts/pump (by someone else) and I can give it a good service and she is set.

Only went to the dealer as it was also Cambelt and water Pump change time as well... and the guy doing it was going to charge the same if he did it for me at his own place as in the workshop... Handy having a father in law who knows the head of the service dept there for years!!
