Engine management light is back

Featured Replies

Hi guys,

I have a 1.4 Fabia and engine management light has come on today, is there any way to get the code like I could with my old Corsa? Past problems and on going problems with my Fabia include the temperature needle not always moving (every other time i turn the car on it usually does.) Also before I was the owner there was a mice living in the bonnet and had a nibble at the two wires going into the coolant tank (temp and engine management lights came on which was fixed three weeks ago and dissconected battery and was all fine.) Any idea what it could be in terms of cost etc!

Cheers

Dan

Welcome

Yes you need the car scanned with VCDS this will give you the fault code(s)

It may need a new coolant temperature sender (these are a common failure) if it does then buy a genuine one as cheaper ones have been know to fail quickly, but without a scan we are just guessing.

I have moved this to the relevant section as a 52 plate Fabia is a MKI

Thanks for the quick reply with the coolant temperature sender would it not turn the temp light on the dash as well?

No, the sensor will not have completely failed, it will be sending inaccurate information to the ECU, there may be a fault code logged due to it having gone intermittent or the fault code may be something else entirely.

Edit: As Giz says, just replace it, it will be out of spec. check if yours is a two-wire or four-wire by pulling the plug off it, also inspect the plug and the wiring carefully for rodent damage.

G62 sensor causes the dash needle not to raise. Usually, the eml is turned on by the exhaust problems, lambda probes or catalyst. In your case, g62 might have a - 40 Celsius degrees reading, leading the ecu to get a richer fuel/air mixture-lower mpg.

I had the same issues eith my 1.4 8v atz engine.

The 1.4 16v VW engine is a little more sophisticated than the old 8v Skoda engine and the management systems have many important differences.

The car in question is an MPI according to his profile.

Whoops, thanks TMB, sorry Alex.
