Octavia Oil Leak? Even the garage are running out of ideas!

I have a 07 tdi Octy vrs and have been to a garage several times to get my bizarre oil leak sorted.

I have had various cam covers and engine seals replaced but this can't be where the oil leak is coming from. I've had a look my self and I think it's something to do with the long plastic thing I've photographed and just below is where the oil is collecting.

Both myself and the garage are running out of ideas. Does anyone know what is causing this? Is it common? Is it just replacing a part and if so could you provide a part number.

The oil leak isn't bad enough to leak on the floor nor does it really affect dip stick level however it makes the engine bay messy and is rather just annoying.

Any light on this would be super. Thank you in advance guys!

The thing you have photographed is the vacuum actuated device for moving the swirl flaps in the intake manifold. [interestingly for an 07 TDI vRS you appear to have a plastic intake manifold. Mine is metal. I thought that plastic ones were for later cars (CR?)]

I don't think that would be the source of the oil as it doesn't have an oil supply. Unless.... (Very long shot here) your tandem pump has had its oil seal fail and oil is in the vac system. This is very unlikely though as the vac system powers the brakes and they would feel weird if that was the case.

Thank you for your comment. Although not a fix your comment has gave me some more knowledge about what I'm actually looking at etc

Could my intake manifold be leaking? Deep within where the plastic rod ends?

Also I have no idea why it's not metal lol.

I really don't want to waste any more money on parts and labour I don't need.

The first thing I'd do is wrap a paper towel around the plastic actuator rod, so that it doesn't impede the operation. Secure it with a tie wrap. See which side gets oily first.

I can/will give that a try but what do you mean by which side?

Oil just collects below the rod in a little puddle and the entire rod itself is always covered in oil.

It's as if the oil just explodes out when it leaks.

Mine did this and the cure was another inlet manifold,it's been updated,mine was boring a hole in the cam cover too,dealer price £650+,I got one for £450 from a place in Swindon,it's on fleebay search for inlet manifolds,they may still be doing them.

 

Dealer changed the rocker cover gasket and cleaned it off,it came back within 500 miles.

 

It's not a hard job just fiddly.

Clean off the rod and then wrap the towel around it so you create a ball. It needs to be far enough away from the vacuum element so that when the rod is pulled in, it doesn't catch. It should show you which direction the oil is coming from and it also acts as a block which should make things clearer. You need to be aware that when you are driving, the airflow means the oil could be coming from anywhere.

I'm finally going to get this sorted once and for all. Just before I go and purchase a new inlet manifold.

Would replacing the seals not stop my leak?

What Mr Baldwin is suggesting is to first determine exactly where the oil is coming from. Once you know that a fix should be easy, if not necessarily cheap.

Randomly replacing anything with oil on may not sort your problem.

To be certain of the fix, you need to certain of the cause.

In the 3rd picture that part above looks wet with oil. Looks like some sort of bung?

Could it be that leaking down?

I know this is an old post. But i have the exact same problem with my skoda vrs. Same year. Did anyone have a solution? What needs to be changed? Easy fix to change the vacum clock or what the name is for the part :)

You will need a new metal type intake manifold that does away with the vacuum module & swirl flaps.

Thank you so much. Just that you wrote swirl flaps helped me a lot innmy search for parts. I did not have one clue what that part was called. Thank you again!
