Monte TSI starting issue

Featured Replies

My wife has a 1.2tsi monte carlo and when starting it cranks for longer than any other car we have had previously. It does always start eventually. Is this just the way these engines are?

Are you talking about from cold or when hot as well?

Mine (105 ps)  turns over a few time before it starts from cold, no issues when warm even from cold though I never get the feeling that it isn't going to start.

More when it's warm and has been run for a while. Seems to crank for ages before actually starting.

If there are Issues with VW's there are often the same issues that come out in time with Skoda, Seat and Audi once the VWG get around to admitting it.

It is just in the EU / UK they take long enough.

Something like this maybe.

once it's started it runs fine. It's just the initial cranking of the engine to start that takes longer than usual. Bought it from a skoda dealer so it's still under warranty.

Mine does this and ming has done 20k and when i bought it from the dealer it kicked in with just one crank i havent change spark plugs that could be a problem too

Normal for this engine I would say. A characteristic of the 1.2 tsi seems to be that when it's been stood a while, e.g. overnight, that it requires an extended crank (4 or 5 complete revs) before it starts. This appears to be down to loss of pressure in the very high pressure common rail when stood for a prolonged period, requiring the mechanical hp pump to repressurise the rail. Short periods up to an hour or so, it starts instantly.

I thought diesels were common rail? Not petrol? Or is it both?

(Learning all the time on here!)

Very interesting! I shall watch that again tomorrow (when i havent had several Stella's) and learn more off it haha.

Have only a small amount turn over to start on either our Monte 86 or Rapid 105 TSI; as was also the case with a previous Fabia 85 TSI.

About the only noticeable thing we get, is what I take to be a little cam chain buzz on the Fabia if it's been stood a day or two, or quite cold, rather than a rattle which the first Fabia TSI suffered from but with the original 'pre mod' cam chain.

Sorry for a late reply.  I recorded my TSi 86 starting from cold, just as a comparison for you. Sorry about the wind noise on the recording.
