Dented door

Featured Replies

I have a stupid wife that was messing me about when I stopped to pick her up y/day due to a bit of married tiff and started due to how she was talking to me, making a fuss about us only being 5 minutes late to something very trivial in nature

She clearly has no respect for me or my car/ the brand well she had made that clear earlier in the evening how she was talking about it and tried to damage my car already albeit only half heartedly !

Anyway she did get her way and damage it though she claimed it was accidental the latter incident; she ended up leaving the door partly ajar as I drove off and I've now got a nice dent in the lower part of the door and I think it mostly hit the bump strip so there is no actual paint damage obvious.

Anyone got any idea on the possibility and cost of the dent removals, too dark for me to post pic unfortunately, well could be it probably won't come out well this dark so going to do it in the light.

Its not so much paint damage at all so in that respect may come out easier (and a nice wide and even dent) so not sure

I know people have had worse but my car was CLEAN gutted ain't the word :( I am hating right now I can tell you

Why the hell didn't I meet someone more likeminded to me with more love for the car/brand :( Well no probs as I told her clearly, she ain't getting in my car as a passenger again unfortunately due to her words and actions!

This is the best map of where it is towards the back end of the passenger door

I'm no expert but my mrs had something similar but went through to the paint.  However it could be filled and sprayed and looks like new.  I was told if it wasn't as deep and hadn't damaged the paint could have possibly 'pulled' it out (was quite a long indent).  It wasn't overly expensive either but it was an independent guy who owns his own body shop.

Alternatively, look at same colour fabias being broken and look for a full replacement door?

Cheers Dave, it looks like it may push or pull out though (without hopefully any subsequent paint damage as I can't see any)

So hopefully it is relatively straight forward and hopefully without needing another door as I'd be very happy if it can be done quickly, cheaply and easily

Was tempted to see how much dismantling is required to see if it can be reached from the inside or if its double skinned hence impossible to get to that bit. Well it if can be pulled is one option and I know suckers and glue sticks are used for that.

Cheers I will give DM a go too, as its not gone through (just knocked and dented) I would imagine pulling might just bring it out perfect(ish) without replacing door with a bit of luck

Have you seen the trick where you heat it up with a hair dryer and then spray compressed air on it and the dent pops out?

Don't know if it will work but maybe worth investigating?

Try a dent puller, it's Just a suction cup. Used one before. Dent came out nicely.

Cheers for the suggestion Adam, I haven't but would take some convincing something of this size would just pop out with something that simple and I think the more traditional techniques may be required. That said if theres a video demonstrating its effectiveness somewhere I might be convinced!

My dad actually got some extremely tough to repair dents pretty much completely out my door pillar before but this time I think despite it probably being far easier on the scale of difficulty, I've probably exhausted his interest lol. With the last ones he just used a smaller puller dent kit with nylon attachment rods. This is a much bigger wider dent which I think would require purchasing it on a far wider area to pull it right out, not a small awkward dent.

Compressed Air Dent Removal:

I've never tried it and don't know if it actually works but if it saves you some money it's got to be worth a try.

Thanks for that

I've gone pikier than that I'm afraid ! Cost =£0 so far

Door card off, access the connection holes and found some rod (bit too small) but also round file (a bit better)

Also kitchen sink plunger I've had for a while, cost about £1 something

Well repeated attempts with the plunger (and a bit of moisture round the seal) plus very careful prising on the line where the plastic edge is with the file from the inside out.

Here is before

Before 1

Before 3

and after my bodgery

After 1

Not bad. I'd be proud of that.

Excellent job, I must remember that.

Cheers guys ! Probably get a bit more of the lumpiness of it, but at least I can look out the window without hating what I see and grimacing :)

Don't forget to give the wife the £200 bill for the repair then :D

Looks a very good diy repair :)

She had put a good dent in it :(

After you've knocked her about a bit first ;)

lol   Well her story, she was in the process of "closing" the door.

Well I must try it on her head if she gets on the wrong side of me in future :punch::D

I guess I had my part in the problem in that I should have waited before setting off the doors were shut so that was a bit of a lesson learnt too,

But honestly when you are in a position of stopping numerous times to get them to see sense and get in the car (not forcefully but level headed) you do begin to loose patience.....especially when they were cruising for a fight right from the start.

I wouldn't have had the car in the awkward position if hadn't had to literally chase the fool down the street to give her final chance to get in or walk home. Wish I had let her now.

Very impressive
