issue with central locking

Featured Replies

Bought a fabia mk1 just over a year ago its a 55 plate now got just over 44,000

Miles on clock got problem with central locking unlocked car locks itself any help would be good about a month ago changed batteries in remotes

Does it lock itself after about 30 seconds of unlocking even if the driver's door has been opened?

If so, it's caused by a failed microswitch on the lock unit inside the driver's door.

Symptoms are...

No lights-on warning sounder.

Doors lock themselves unless key in ignition or another door opened before 30 secs (if car has safety locking enabled).

Boot does not open unless another door with working switch is opened.

Interior light does not come on when driver's door opened (it will still work via remote key fob or by using the key).

The doors also lock if the passengers side front door is closed or opened even if the key is in the ignition. Have to remember to never leave the key in the ignition or have the spare in my pocket. Not sure if all the symptoms you mentioned are present so will check. Thanks for the advice.

Is this a big job to change?
