Adjustable PAS on Fabia?

Featured Replies

When i originally picked up my Fabia, the salesman told me that the power steering was adjustable.

This is because the Fabia has electronic power steering and it can be adjusted to be lighter or heavier in feel.

Has anyone had the power steering feel changed by their dealer?

Does the above apply to the octavia?

Did he mean to say the steering wheel rake was adjustable?

Ive never heard of this on the Fabia , but i know the current Punto has a 'city' button for its PAS which makes the wheel easier to turn , so maybe some models in some countries have this as an option?

I seem to remember reading the Fabia was fitted with speed sensitive power steering, lightening up at lower speeds, although I cant find any documentation to support this

I have had a quick look through the 18 road tests for the Fabia in our web links and can find no reference to adjustable steering. A few tests refer to the steering as having electro-hydraulic power assistance, and it is possible that this is speed sensitive as on my late Senator. However, the fact that the steering is criticised in a number of tests for being too light at speed - the Senator's PAS firmed up at speed - would make that seem unlikely.

I was referring to the electro hydraulic assistance.

I shall make further enquiries when my next service is due, but my dealer said that an adjustment can be made to reduce power steering assistance to give a "weightier feel"

Perhaps this could be a cure for those who feel the Fabias steering is too light.

However i have noticed that the steering on my car does have a much "meatier" feel than the petrol engined fabia.

I have put this down to the extra weight of the diesel engine over the front wheels...

Yep the steering on a fabia is speed sensitive but I'm pretty certain it's not adjustable... let me know if I'm wrong though!

I am pretty sure it is adjustable....well, according to my dealer anyhow....they have a poster display about the Fabia in the showroom and it says that it is adjustable.

Thanks pete.....

I knew i wasnt just imagining it as i'd seen it written down somewhere in one of the brochures.

I couldnt remember where though!

I checked with my Dealer this morning who confirmed that the Fabia's power steering is adjustable. It comes as standard with the feel set to Medium (which most road testers describe as light). It can be set by the Dealer using the VAG tool to Light, Medium or Heavy. However, as Medium is already light, Light is very light. Heavy is, er, heavy. My Dealer does not recommend resetting it for that reason. All clear??? :?

Denis,

Well done for sorting that one out, its a shame the settings are not available from a switch in the cabin so it could be set for terain/driver. A 3 choice switch would have been novel. I suppose its down to cost not the technical capability.

On a Fiat Punto I hired in France I found that the city option did have advantages where lots of steering movements was required.

Just for info,

When a friend took my vRS for a spin he liked it so much that he ordered one for his next company car. However, when it arrived he said it didn

Dealer in Bolton? Is there?? Whereabouts is it?

How about The Parkside Garage Co, Peabody St. 01204 520538. Been a Skoda dealer since 1987.

Was a long link, now a diddy one

Ah, the joys of web links (Skoda UK - retail locator), MultiMap.com and the BT telephone network.

We aim to please. :D Now to walk the dog...

Parkside Skoda, past the big Peugeot Garage.

Just off Trinity Street turn left at the mini roundabout, go past the Peugeot Garage on LHS, and keep going through the traffic lights. Parkside Skoda is just up the hill on the LHS. It is pretty well hidden though being situated off a back street.

ah, never knew that, I use Horners as it's close to work anyhow.

Likewise,

I use Claybank as I pass them on my way to and from work.

Has anyone got any up to date info regarding how dealers can reset Fabia Pas as Horners at Bury don't seem to think it is possible. Is there a link to Skoda/VAG service bulletins

Thanks SJL

It is possible through accessing the appropriate ECU using VAG COM tool or similar such equipment. Assuming of course that the system is fitted to the car. I say that because it may not be available in UK.

Its just the same process as adjusting the comfort settings, enabling cruise etc.

I am sure big k can let your dealer know how to do it when he reads this thread.

yes p/steering is adjustable but as i remember it has aprrox 3 settings this is done by the coding of the control unit of the power steering. anybody wants to know i can get the codes for you. octavia's do not have the same function as they do not have electric pump as fabia's
