Featured Replies

I have finally have sold my Bolero that was changed with the Columbus,

The person who is going to keep the Bolero has a 2007 Octavia Scout.

Does he need a new one or the one whe has will do, part number would be nice.

Do the Bolero  need to be coded?

thanks

Bolero shouldn't need coding if it is replacing that Stream HU.

But, there are two slightly different shapes of Bolero so can't say whether the existing fascia will fit or not.

If you have the same Bolero as mine then it should be straight swap.

However, with the coding - I would get the CAN gateway checked out - if it is a "K" variant or older then the Bolero will cause the battery to drain because the Bolero makes requests to the CAN bus that the older gateways cannot answer, thus the radio polls it continuously and the battery is drained.

If it is a 2007 model then it "might" be newer than K and should be OK - but my 2006 car had an F or a G one and I had to buy a new one and code it myself with VAGCOM - though the whole job of replacing it and coding it probably took an hour or two tops. In my car the CAN Gateway is located behind the glovebox so you have to drop that out to get to it. In other cars I believe it is somewhere near the throttle but I can't remember what year this changed.

If you have access to VCDS it is very easy to find out the version of the CAN gateway before you do anything else.

^^^ Good point!

On a 2007 the CAN gateway may (most probably will have) have moved to the right above the drivers feet.

Getting at it is easiest from outside the car via the scuttle panel / wiper arm linkage.

VCDS scan is easier...

But, there are two slightly different shapes of Bolero ........

Is there?

The Bolero is the same, but there are two different fascias - one for Superbs and ones for Octavias.(IIRC)

EDIT: The Yeti fascia looks the same as the Octavia too.

The Bolero is off my 2010 octavia

From what i read it's a straight swap and the can system may need to be upgraded

Oh, you will need an antenna adapter too.

Otherwise you'll have no radio :)

Not strictly true.

You can connect the single aerial connector in the 2007 Scout to the correct part of the double connector on the Bolero (the one in the right as you look at the back of it).

I did that for a while until I put two antenna in my car. If you don't intend to do that, I would suggest £8 on a splitter is a good buy.

Ah - I did not know this! Thanks for pointing it out :)

For the sake of £8 though - you could just go ahead and buy it in advance saving you pulling the thing back out a second time just to fit it.. :)

Post #11 http://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/240942-do-i-need-a-facia-surround-for-a-bolero-replacing-an-audience-hu/

I've read it a few times that people think there are but have never seen it myself as I rarely deal with Bolero head units.

Yeah, I had thought the same as what g_tee said, and if I recall correctly a Superb one doesn't fit an Octavia as the fascia is quite a bit taller.

Yep that's it

The fascia is definitely different between a Superb & an Octavia (and probably a Yeti again).

So is it just the fascia that is different (taller) not the actual shape of the Bolero?

Yes the fascia is seperate to the unit - in fact you need to get the fascia off to get to the screws underneath that secure it to the car - so the actual physical unit is the same no matter what.

So one bolero and two different fascias depending on what car it's going in

I thought the Superb nobs were further down?

Well I'll be. You are absolutely right.

I'm sure it's just a fascia swap though - but now I'm not sure!!

So as well as two different fascia which depends upon the car it's going into, there is in fact two different shape Bolero units as well.

PS: I know the fascia is separate to the actual headunit, the confusion comes over the shape if the front of the headunit.

In other words, the shape if the whole in the fascia.

I don't think the Superb one fits into an Octavia, but I think you can get a fascia to allow Octavia ones to fit into Superbs, as well as a fascia to allow "normal VW square" ones to fit (i.e. RNS 315/510 etc)
