Do I need a facia surround for a Bolero replacing an Audience h/u?

Featured Replies

This is what i'm gonna be doing at some point this summer to my pre-fl octy, and just wondered if anyone's done the swap with these two particular stereos and therefore does one need to buy a replacement surround? Doesn't look like it, but I just can't tell 100% from looking.

Over to you guys...

No idea what you need, but I will soon have a Bolero for sale, as when my car arrives from the factory I am putting a Columbus in so will have a brand new Bolero for sale if you need one?

I'm 99.9% sure that the Audience has the same front footprint/shape as the Octavia Bolero.

Would love a bolero but my 07 needs an older unit and a canbus upgrade, too much hassle. Time to save for a newer car with one already in it

yes you will have to change the surround , i have the one you need ?

Is it oem, and how much is it?

Interesting, how does it differ?

In the highly sophisticated method of overlaying an image of one headunit over the other they looked pretty identical in shape.

the audience is a much wider unit and the bolero , columbus are much narrower , same size units fitted to vw's.

The Octavia Bolero is the same width as the Stream/Audience, the Superb Bolero is the same size as the Columbus. Strange, but there are two different versions.

I am looking to do exactly the same by replacing my audience with a bolero. I would be interested in yours. How much are you looking for it, you can pm me if you like. :D

Never got any pm. What's the part number on it?

Bloody hell, this is a slower response from a3quattro than Skoda UK!! :notme:

As you guys have the Audience I'd guess you also have the steering wheel controls - do these work with the Bolero? I'd considering this upgrade but use those controls a lot so wouldn't want to lose them.

oops sorry forgot to pm you

Aparently they do, but it may well be dependant on the year/maker of the Bolero. The only things that i'm expecting NOT to work on mine are the PDC & climate displays, but i'll find out pretty soon! :)

Ta - I will watch with interest!

Wait, did anyone actually read this?

Yes, but I already knew that. The Superb version is also the one get in a Yeti. I think I may have missed your point?

Ah sorry, I didn't see a post where you said you were fitting the Superb/Yeti Bolero. Your original post inferred you were looking at an Octy one.

Erm, I AM fitting an octy one, so i'm a bit lost as to what your point was about it? If you meant that it's a straight swap, i'm only a bit lost cos you're saying it's just that, but a3quattro says it isn't, and since no-one's come back with any part numbers or personal experience to kind of prove it, it's a bit hard to know what to think.

I think there's a reason it sounds like woodworm's waiting for me to do it to find out what to do, and it's for the same thing.

If anyone's got a definite 'yes, it's this!' bit of conformation, then this thread'll probably finish.

Riiiight. Ok sorry for the confusion. Here's how I see it:

From a3quattro's post here:

the audience is a much wider unit and the bolero , columbus are much narrower , same size units fitted to vw's.

He seems to be saying that the Bolero and Columbus are the same size, and much narrower than the Audience which would suggest the fascia he's offering is for the Columbus or Superb Bolero.

Here's the Audience:

(minus the tabs covering the hex screws)

and the Octy Bolero:

bolero_133.jpg

The look identically-sized to me.

So, if you're fitting an Octavia Bolero (which do seem to be much more commonly available) then the fascia surround that a3quattro has WON'T FIT, so I was trying to clear that up with him to make sure you didn't buy it off him to find that it wouldn't fit, though he's not responded to my post.

But yes, a definitive answer would be useful, so I'll stop muddying the thread now. Sorry for any confusion caused!

Yeah, initially I thought from the look of it it should be a straight swap without the need for a new fascia, but as you say, it all got a bit muddied on here and now I don't know. Came on here to see if anyone knew definitively but it got very confusing!

I'll find out shortly though. :)
