Coolant loss since cambelt and waterpump

Featured Replies

As the title says really,

Since having it's second cambelt and pump change on my vrs 2 weeks ago I've had to top the coolant up a few times now where as I've never had to touch it previously, as an example the other day it was on max when cold then checked it the next day it was on minimum.

I've had a look about and can't see any signs of it leaking anywhere, engine runs perfect so I'm ruling out head gasket.

Expansion bottle cap seems a little loose even when fully locked closed, evaporation maybe ? or has anyone experienced a leaking water pump before ?

Thanks

If the water pump is leaking, try and pull the top timing belt cover off and look down and try and check. Inspect the belt and see how that looks while the covers off.

Could also try looking around the bottom pulley.

Sound like the pump not put in right or its getting air out the system?

I know my m5 took a while to clear all the air out of the system when I did my stat.

Did you definitely change the pump? My octy had a slight leak on it before it was changed?

Hope you sort it

I was warned to check my coolant for the first 100-200 miles when I had mine done. How many miles has it been going on for?

It's self bleeding and should be sorted after about a 5 mile trip with the heaters on full warm.

Check the heater pipes where they go through the bulkhead.

Depending on how rough the mechanic is, these are put under a fair bit of tension when the engine gets jacked up to facilitate the process.

Thanks for replys,

I always take it to a reputable VAG specialist, have done for years and certainly not "rough" lol

I'll check the heater pipes for any leaking and get under the car to check round the bottom pulley.

Mine was at a main dealer and damaged as above !!

Pop back in with it. I'm sure they'll identify any problems (if there are any) and rectify FOC
