55 reg octavia sport 2.0 tdi pd

Featured Replies

Hi,

Newbie here , after months of looking for a Octavia I come across one that looks sweet,

Never had a Skoda, after mother had bad experience with her Fabia.

Anything I should be looking for and check, got full service history and 66k on the clock.

Heard mix reports on the 2 tdi engine, and I believe it is a chain, so will not changed, is that correct ?

Thanks for the advice, and hope soon to be par to the sport club.

Cheers

Things to look out for: -

Cambelt should have been changed at 4 years old so 2009 and 2013. The intervals for those are 74K/4 years

It is belt driven, not chain.

There are a few known faults such as turbo, check the car currently drives well and isn't in a limp home mode or excessively smoking - check for a "police siren" noise when you get to about 2.5-3K RPM IIRC.

I have an 06 plate 2.0 TDI 140 DSG (so practically same age/engine) and mine has done 65K and only thing I've had fail on mine is a brake calliper and at the moment I have a suspect fuel pump but I am awaiting a 2nd opinion on it for the moment.

I am sure there are others who will offer more but I can't say I've noticed anything else with my car (I've had it 3 years and done nearly 30K in that time now)

As stated above make sure the cambelt and water pump have been done. I have done 126k miles in mine. Only issue I've had was the teves mk60 abs pump failure.

What does the 'police siren' noise indicate?

What does the 'police siren' noise indicate?

Knackered turbo normally

You may have read on line about a "Chain" issue on the 2.0 tdi engine, this does not affect the octavia,it seems to affect the 2.0 superb & various Audi's.....its to do with the chain & sprockets on the oil pump. Your octavia will have a Cambelt.

Thanks everyone for their replies, appreciate it.

Lovely car, but no documentation as to cambelt, so have to assume not. Sales gut tried to tell me it don't. Really matter on these engines as they never go wrong , yeah whatever!! Going to get pric down few hundred to get it done.

Also check the air-con/climate control(if fitted) works ok & check the rear tyres for wear on the inside edge.

As it's a pre-FL check the sills all along for rust and bubbling paint even if it has mud flaps.
