CRX was too low - another one would have been a VTEC CRX - but those have no power steering (and rear really really cramp for my kids ! )

Didnt know I had a following on here

So

Just adding a few pics ref last few fixes on Luke before last update when he s SOLD :(

Driver door was not shutting tight

There was wind noise, closing door need a bit more force, and there was an obvious gap too!

Easy fix

Just trial n error with door closing latch

Rear boot spoiler was lose

Coz bolt hole was well worned

So bought a heli-coil kit (Thread repair kit)

Added a proper metal thread hole (rather than original tacky plaster)

Not really a fan of these bigger 17" Kahn s wheels

So had my spare set 15" Enkei s refurbed for £15/alloy

MUCH better

Cabin fan was making a rustling noise :(

Cleaned and removed some debris from within

Electric aerial works

Just a snapped aerial

So removed and cleaned out motor

Brought new aerial

But unfortnately that snapped too (aftermarket ones NOT a perfect fit :( )

So left it for now

Finally

Luke s rev was yo-yoing between 1000-1500 rpm

When in NEUTRAL and PARK

3 visits to garage and it was fixed

But each time after a week or so, it came back! :(

I wasnt willing to waste more money and decided to have a go myself!

All intake pipes out...and cleaned

Throttle body / Idle Stabilisation Valve behind

Cleaning throttle body

And the bit the throttle body joins to

New throttle body gasket from Honda £5

OLD (black rubber); NEW (paper - eek!)

In the end had to get another garage to fix (as i split the gasket - lol)

And i wasnt brave enough to clean the ISV (idle Stabilisation Valve)!!!

But it was still yo-yoing!

Until I was told by another garage to reset the BASE IDLE screw above the throttle body

FIXED! :)

Think its time for some updates on the VeeDub ...

Car had rear wheels sticking out and coilovers set too low -

So rear arches where cutting into the tyres on bumpy roads ...

So

Had the rear 25mm spacers removed and increased coilover height

BEFORE/AFTER

Replace AMBER side indicators with CLEAR

Add AMBER film to fogs

Had a very kind forum member helped to service the car for free

We had a few swearing moments...

1. When my THREE FOOT breaker bar PLUS extended by an another THREE FOOT pipe failed to remove the wheel nuts - eeek!!!

2. The rear calipers seized - we panicked and tried to push calipers by hand, force, G-clamp and even bought a Caliper Piston rewinding tool and still no avail - DOUBLE eek!!! :( :( :(

Car also kept stalling,

So bought one of these cheap fault scanners (wonder if it works on Skoda s too???)

My door handle is held by a single broken wood screw - eeek!

(Instead of a special VW LEFT-threaded bolt !!!)

Steering wheel making a grinding noise when turning

So took it off to clean

Was basically dirt/debris fallen in where steering wheel joins/rotate against steering column

A good clean sorted it

Sunroof leaks

AND only tilts on one side AND does not slide back to open

So decided to investigate by removing headliner to ease access

Sunroof drain outlets seem clear

(By running a cable from sunroof to drain outlets to outside)

Wing mirrors were corroded (see right side end)

So replaced with convex blue-tinted heated mirrors

As

I only bought the wing mirrors WITHOUT backing plates

I had to re-use existing backing plate

So needed to remove OLD mirrors from backing plate first ...

SOAK OLD mirror+backing plate in HOT BOILING water to soften glue and separate ...

Replace front bulbs with BRIGHTER and BETTER OSRAM ones

With headliner already out

Thought i replace the badly perishing roof aerial

From roof to back of stereo

OLD aerial has an inline powered amplifier (silver tube in 2nd pic)

Look at all those wires under one rear seat - eek!!!

And the other one???

All these cables / fuses in the engine bay?

And messy cables behind stereo?

All removed (someone had added a sub, amp and crossovers at one point to the car)

Headlights were a little high

So did a DIY alignment ...

Mark distance from wall (chalk markings on road)

Car as near to wall as possible and mark headlight on wall with blue tape

Move car back to the chalk markings

And adjust alignment (before/after)

Are you going to get that Fuel flap back to normal ? (Remove the 'MaxPower' type stickers?)
