Otaylor38,  i know, Post #1 tells us that.

which is why i wondered if one was OK, then is a Bargain on a second one not an idea.

I am looking forward to seeing just what 5-7 year old Citgo -Up!-Mii are like,

because it seems that the VWG have taken Back to Basics motoring a step too far.

These do not appear to be cars that are going to have longevity of parts, they are looking like being pretty disposable vehicles.

But as with anything time will tell.

Skoda / VW / Seat / Audi certainly do not seem prepared to put 7 year Warranties as standard or even 5 year if you dealer service,

which says lots about them and the products they build.

Have you ever been in a mk2 Polo? I remember them new and thought how spartan they were. Turns out the 20 and 23 year old ones i've encountered are holding up just fine. My Toledo is well screwed together enough and i'm not envisaging any problems.

I have been in many 20 plus year old cars. Even 40 year old cars. Been in them when New. If I make it to 2030 I will see how many cars from 2009 on are still on the roads.

Its doubtful ill still be on briskoda then. So i apologise in advance that i might not read what youve got to say in 2030.

I imagine i either wont be here, or I'll be a member of an electric car forum. But thats another topic

Otaylor38,  we will need to see in 16 years time then, 38 year olds are still youngsters on this forum.

Be careful you might find that Briskoda is like 'Hotel California'.

Right the montes on the drive and been for loads of test drives today

First up the Suzuki swift z2s and was ok a bit firm and plasticky drove really well steering nice and light and a nice gearbox , next car was the little mii , citigo and finally the up all virtual identical but the vw was slightly better but all very noisy and not nice , the mii sport was the best car, then popped into honda jazz great car but the a frame was big and not very economic and £110 road tax , final destination was the Toyota first car yaris 1.33 engine and bloody hell a revelation why by a vw the japs know a thing or 2 really excellent vehicle I was sold , however missus went " it's too big " :o so I said lets try the ay go then 1.0 3 cylinder vvti engine , the dealer said u won't be disappointed :) yeah right I said here we go again ! A 3 cylinder okey koki I said , well all I can say is " 100 out of a 100 " one of the best cars I've driven ! A great quiet engine fantastic build quality and comfy as the golf ! , so we've gone for a 63 plate with 20 miles on the clock so basically brand new with 21/2k knocked of the price so holding till Friday as we need com formation on wife's job then its a deal !

Sorry DP !!!!!

I think i suggested quite a while ago that you or the good lady try an iQ.  i would still suggest you do.

1.0 VVT 3 Cylinder, the Multidrive (CVT) is Great, and in the front it feels like a Full Size car.

More room than an Aygo & better on Motorways & the likes IMO.

Yes you did George still a possibility as we didn't even try the iQ it's the same engine as well I think as the aygo

Please do give it a try.

I think they are wonderful, drives so solid, and every driver should experience the turning circle.

One negative, the Width, then the size of the doors, it needs space to park and enter/exit the car.

Swift. My mum had an Up! and the engine was awful - 3 cylinder, noisy and no power. The swift is the only one there with a decent engine.

EDIT: just read the more recent posts - fair play, I'd not been in/tried an aygo. That 3 cylinder VW engine is ****e though, it wouldn't be difficult to find something better.

Agree the engines in the vw up and similar are noisy but Jesus the mii sport was quick , that was my thinking about the 3 cylinder when I tried the vag range but seriously the Toyota 3 cylinder vvti engine was quiet ( well quieter than vag) and very eager to please so we are sold ! , I might be changing the golf now for a auris

It will be interesting to see, barring any EU diktat I think the numbers might be surprising.

There are cars on the roads now that were purchased from the £2,000 grant from the last UK Scrappage Scheme that are more polluting than may that were scrapped.

Like some Euro 5 Diesels that have DPF's and are less economical than older diesels.

It is unreal just how it is Electrics & Computer Chips that kill Modern Cars more than Corrosion ever did.

The inbuilt obsolescence is in the Wiring Looms and ECUs /Sensors, and unbelievably Car Manufacturers still build cars where H20 can get to wiring and connectors and cause corrosion.

Skoda have some ridiculous Looms on the likes of Fabias where the Wires are right there with & under the Washer Bottles and pipes.

Recalls of Wiring Looms on cars like the Citigo is just a sign of how pathetic the Design & Engineering is with Basic & Simple vehicles after the decades of Building Vehicles.

Less worry about, Bling & frills, and more about reliability would be good.

But if they build products that last for ever, then people keep them and might not replace them.

VORSPRUNG DURCH TECHNIK

'Build them to last,  just not to last too long.'

(& if they need parts, be sure that we are where you have to get the parts from.)

Suzuki Jimny, not fast but great fun and will go anywhere whatever the weather, can get either manual or auto. How many other small 4x4 offer that as well as both low and high ratio gearbox on a separate chassis.

Did you post this in the wrong thread? Was it meant for the Suzuki Vitara thread.?

But you are right on the Jimny, which is why my 1998 & 2003 ones are still so good.

The Body Metalwork has never been redesigned by Suzuki since 1998.

There are some early and later dodgy ones, early for Corrosion, later Automatic Gearbox Electrics.

The Mk5 is coming up to ten years of age and 100k on the clock. 6sp DSG, xenon headlights, electric adjustment on most things. My 2nd B2 Audi Coupe was 14 when I bought it and everything worked perfectly. Still did when I sold it on. I don't think its as simple as saying circuits this, electrics that although it is obvious that the more there is the more that can go wrong. I just feel that even those basic cars of the 80s or 70s would still have looked like a money pit to Henry Ford or Karl Benz- be interesting to see how they (don't) unfold.

Its good when they are good.

Its odd when the VWG get it right they do not evolve and improve.

The choice of engines is bewildering and engine Codes and Names, eg 1.4 TSI /TFSI which Can be Turbo or Turbo & Supercharger.

VW are just not good at admitting failings in Design & Manufacturing, tell the owners, resolve and then on the Revised engine be sure the faults are gone.

Its penny Pinching Chain Tensioner parts or Water Pumps that can cause issues.

VW just like to do the 3 Monkeys, pretend it never happened and move on.

Well its caught them out in other World Regions where the Media do not worry about the VW Advertising Account being withdrawn or the likes.

Recalls are World Wide, but some how exclude the EU,

& Service Campaigns are 'Silent Service Campaigns', only too often.

If the VWG were more open then there Reputation they built for Reliability might be actual rather than fiction.

In New Zealand Skoda seemed able to Publish a Service Campaign, VW do sometimes in the UK.

Skoda UK do not.

http://skoda.co.nz/news/dsg-service-campaign

Now Skoda UK are sending out letters but only after complaints to them & VOSA/ Dft because they trried the Silent Service Campaign after saying there

was no need for a Recall, & there still is no Recall in the UK.
