Issues after servicing?

Featured Replies

Hi there would love to hear your opinion with regards my experience servicing my Fabia with Skoda (won't name the dealer just now).

First of all it's a 2009 Skoda Fabia TDI (facelift - has the 3 on the back). Took it to Skoda for minor service, break fluid change and timing belt replacement.

Straight after the servicing I've noticed that my handbrake light started acting funny - when switched on the ignition it did light up as expected, but after that it either did go off, flashed (and went off or stayed on) or stayed on - obviously by the time I put on the ignition the handbrake was on. Also any time the handbrake was applied was either fine, flashing or just stayed off.

However it stopped lighting up at all two days ago when the handbrake was on (still lights up when the switch on ignition - but goes off).

I'm suspicions that it's just the micro switch in the handbrake broken - but not 100% sure.

The other thing is that in the dash above the trip computer the LCD display stopped showing data from the radio like in the same time. The trip computer data is still displayed, but the top segment where the stereo data is displayed isn't showing anything - altough it's working (I think as has backlight) also with low fuel level it goes yellow as expexted.

The above two issues might not be related. Phoned the dealer and they strictly refused any responsibility with regards the handbrake light (got not there to mention the LCD). Offered me to book in my car for £100 for diagnosis+labour which I did not accept.

Wonder if anyone has an idea what could be wrong and maybe a hint how to fix it/what could have gone wrong.

Cheers

The handbrake light also acts as a warning for the brakes. Have you checked the brake fluid level?

The issue of the screen not showing the info sounds like some coding has changed? If they have had the battery off it may have reset the dash/stereo and so they're not talking to each other any more?

Hi Phil,

Will check the brake fluid level, however don't see why it should be an issues - was replaced, I hear no beeping and the light should be ON if it would want to warn about any issues I take, but it's just OFF.

Could just be the dash cluster has started messing about (links both issues).

Hi Tech1e,

Thanks for the idea - sorry no mechanic, but is there something I could check on that part - ie lose connector, or something? Or it's a part you would rather replace? That's basically the whole dash - isn't it?

The brake fluid was not a bad idea - after removing the cap I had the light flashing again on ignition, than went OFF - might coincidence - the fluid level seems right.

Cheers,

Gabor
