Tunung box info for 2003 models onwards

You'll have to excuse the typo on the title :o

Just found this ...could explain a few things....but is it true?

Important - Please read

We like to be honest at Red i Tuning and it has been brought to our attention that due to V.A.G. software changes, when fitted to 2003+ models there is a chance fault codes/DTC's may be stored on your ECU. This can also result in your engine management warning lamp being illuminated.

This is the case for all tuning devices of this type no matter what the seller tells you!

This means that even with the module removed and with no warning lamps illuminated, upon service you may be advised by your service department not to use any aftermarket tuning devices on your engine.

FOR THE ABOVE REASONS WE DO NOT RECOMMEND THE USE OF THIS MODULE ON 2003+ VEHICLES

If you own one of these vehicles why not go for an ECU re-map?

I can't see it myself. I had a tuning box on mine fitted by my dealer when I first got the car. It never threw up ANY fault codes whatsoever and my Dad still runs his with an identical box and has done so for two years. I think Red-I just want to charge you for a re-map which they make more profit on...:thumbdwn:

EDIT - Forgot to say that the engines and ECU's between all three are obviously identical in spec. Both cars are 2003 onwards...

I don't believe it applies to all models.

I may know someone who had a cheapo resistor mod on his wife's 2005 car without problem. ;)

The reason that the CEL comes on is if the parameters are out of tolerance. If you have any of the tuning boxes fitted and overcook the settings then that's what'll happen.

The simple answer is to get hold of VAG-COM. If the CEL does light you will get something like fuel temp sender signal implausable, this doesn't mean you have definately had a box fitted.

I have a 2004 PD 130 and I fittted a dragon box to it, after about 30 miles the engine management light and ASR light came on and stayed on no matter what it was set to.

And yes, I had some interesting questions during the last service, needless to say the box is now off. Dragon have told me they have had a few 2004 PD's with this problem so something seems to have changed.

My brother had the car before me with a cheapo resistor jobbie on it and it too bought the engine management light on but NOT the ASR light, that seems to be reserved for the more expensive digital boxes. :P
