Trade in prices gone mad

Featured Replies

I'm thinking of moving on from my VRS and have just got back from looking at a new Fiesta ST. My VRS is an immaculate 13 plate rallye green with a good spec including sat nav and only 7,200 miles on the clock. Trade in price?.......£6,500!!!!!!! "retail is only a grand or so more" , "that's what the guide says its worth". My GFV on the finance is more than this 18 months and 12k miles down the line.......

I hope you walked out, I'm guessing they are not to bothered about selling you the Ford

GFV values don't really mean anything, it is just a way of how to juggle the figures when buying again

That is a crap trade-in.

Be interesting to see what WBAC do you and then get a better marker by looking at Autotrader to see real world prices.

Wow they really didn't want your car as PX! I get the impression that Ford dealers are getting a little cocky as the Fiesta ST is practically selling itself.

Rightly so as it is a cracking little car for the money.

Have you had that as an offer from another Dealer /s, or just looking on paper & one Offer.?

I was looking for an old thread i started earlier this year on Bargains at Dealers,

& there was a WBAC offer thread.

I was just about to post (when i read your post)

about Bargains at Dealer on New & nearly new Demonstrators.

Available today cheaper to buy a new 2014 Mk2 Fabia vRS than they were new 4 years ago to buy, even as Demonstrators in 2010,

Second dealer, first one tried hard to get to my £10k ask, made loads of calls and used auto trader as a rough guide but could only get to £9500. That was on a trade down as well! WBAC offered £8645. These cars seem to be really undervalued in the trade, I know there have been oil issues for some cars but it seems that all are now tainted as a result......

GFV plus £1.5 to £2.0k is the minimum Skoda dealer would retail, is my guess .

Currently on Skoda website retail at £12000-£13500 at that sort of mileage.

Hold on to it, Fiesta ST is not that much better, if at all, as an all round every day car. In my opinion.

Yeah, probably going to hold on to it for a bit now, can't justify taking too big a hit on it when it's parked up in the garage most of the week!

Continue to enjoy your great car, you have the CTHE(I think) motor so you should be fine.

Invest in the minor handling tweaks, if that is important to you, otherwise stay standard and save for you next motor in a year or so and minimise your losses

Yeah mine's the CTHE. 1 litre used in 7k so no dramas there. It'll stay standard so that I can change it pretty quickly if I find the right deal at some point. Nothing wrong with it but I have a short attention span when cars are involved, keeping something for well over a year is rare for me!

Enjoy!! :notme:

£6500?

Keep the car that's ridiculous

Got offered £7800 2 weeks ago for my vrs an 11plate at 22k (at a Skoda dealer)

Not that I'm selling but was curious at the time

its a stupid price, spend your money making the vRS handle better than the ford..... some choice suspension mods will make it just as good :)

Jesus, and there's me hoping that mine might still be worth around 4/5k in 4 years time. Maybe not then... :-(

Given that mine is merely a 58' plate, but has only dont 40k odd miles, i bought it last year for £5k, got it valued a couple weeks ago, offered 2.8k by dealer. was gobsmacked...

You do have a rarer beast. So should hold up slightly better.

But in fairness a car that's a year old will have lost the biggest chunk of its value. You'll probably get offered the same sort of price 2 or even 3 years down the line when the values start to even out. That's why most cars are valued at the "after 3 years mark."

If a Ford Dealer does not want it on their forecourt they just check what the can get it away for in the trade,

and get a few hundred minimum instantly on it.

If someone is silly enough or desperate to take the offer, they are laughing.

The 'checked Autotrader', thats the book value etc

tried to get you £10,000 stuff is Sales Person Guff.

A Seat Dealership will have a different offer totally if they can get the Trade in Sold or moved on,

& they can get a New Seat sold to you.

The mk2 shape is now obsoleted by the impending launch of mk3 new models. Would you buy an old shape [insert any make] at anything but a large discount?

The problems with vrs engines and dsg are now becoming general knowledge. Doesnt matter that its not every car.

The 70/80 year olds that bought fabias have become richer and moved up market.

'Richer' , really?

vrskeith has, so right enough.

sparkly wanted to be old before his time, so he has as well.

Age is but a number ,fortunately 70 / 80 is at a distance.

Richer, my bank manager wouldn't say that, after my latest big dent in the account

Spend it, as you are a long time DEAD!

Yeah, or chuck Colin £12, get your Freedom membership and stick an ad on here.

As others have said. A crazy low trade in offer, walk away shouldn't be hard at all to beat that easily.

Damn!!!

If I'd known a week ago you were selling such a car I'd have given you £10K in a heartbeat!

Keep it the fords a really good but with a few mods the vrs will be there. Plus imo the vrs will be worth more in the future (a very good few years) due to the limited number made. Plus the twin charger is an epic engine dispite all its flaws. The noise and performance is second to none, better than the ford.
