Trade in prices gone mad

You do have a rarer beast. So should hold up slightly better.

I hope so mate! To be fair, if she stays trouble free, I'll have no issues with keeping her but would be nice if still worth a few quid in the years to come. I just need to make sure I look after her :-)

Wow, that is low. I don't think it was the oil or dsg issues affecting the price, more the fact he was taking the mick and if you had of said yes then he would be laughing all the way to the bank. The VRS is so much rarer than the Ford, keep it.

if you think depreciation on the Fabia is bad, go buy that Fiesta ST and try that in a year.

It's not that bad I can get a car wow Fiesta ST3 for the same price new as a used one!

Sad thing is, if it had VW badge on it would probably be valued higher! Dealers need to catch on, more and more people are wanting Skodas.

If a Fabia vRs that was £15,000 to buy is worth £7,500 in 3 years, then that as 50% depreciation.  £2500 a year.  (They were still getting £9000 plus as trade in or just as a private sale at 3 years old)

The VW Polo GTI had people paying £20,000 Plus for them, as high as £22,000,

and not getting £12,000 for them after 3 years. £3,300 a year depreciation, but obviously, you had a Premium car, same Drive train though.

a vRS kept for 5 years with a warranty, bought for £15,500 costing you £2000 a year in Depreciation is pretty good.

VW's are nothing special as a safe bet against Depreciation, many can not do better than 48% in 3 years.

I part ex'd mine when it was two years old for £10,500 - cost me £14,000. I think losing £3,500 in two years was fine.

However, lost a shed load on the Rapid - won't be doing that again!

Cars will never give you a decent return unless you keep it for a while.

GFV plus £1.5 to £2.0k is the minimum Skoda dealer would retail, is my guess .

Currently on Skoda website retail at £12000-£13500 at that sort of mileage.

Hold on to it, Fiesta ST is not that much better, if at all, as an all round every day car. In my opinion.

I do really like the fiesta St and have considered chipping mine in a few times since buying it, thinking i should have went for the st!

but after going against one (mine running bluespark) (before i fitted induction kit and intercooler) with the Mountune pack, destroying it, and then realising how much of a good all rounder the fabia is, completely changed my mind!

then after doing intercooler, i was neck and neck with friends in leon cupra r ahead of a friends 270hp focus st etc, then fitting the induction kit, just nudged me a touch!

class underrated cars, shame it doesnt have dab as standard :(

the thing with this car is, it doesn't do one thing great, it does everything good, thats what it is, a good car. Very german.

kinda gutted i may be getting rid of mine because im now located in romania/

And this is the problem...... no car (unless you bought an RS2000 back in 1979 and kept it unused) gives you any decent or otherwise return, its simply a lesson in losing the least.

I did OK on my Fabia vRS but then it was an estate and moved it on whilst they were still quite a rare sight on a Skoda used forecourt. Also had it 18 months before letting go.

Did well on my Octavia Blackline too, same story really, a late v well equipped TDi DSG estate vRS was an easy sell for my local dealership.

Looks as though i'll do my nuts on my Mk3 Octavia Elegance 2.0 when that eventually goes as they are already everywhere (car hire companies seem to love them) so used values already plummeting. Probably a mistake buying the regular model over a vRS.

You cant win them all unless you invest in a classic car that appreciates rather than depreciates. My Dad is fortunate enough to be able to own a v late and good condition R107 420SL Merc; not everyones cup of tea and not really mine TBH but its going up in value and worth a good chunk more than what it cost a year or so on.

I'm thinking of moving on from my VRS and have just got back from looking at a new Fiesta ST. My VRS is an immaculate 13 plate rallye green with a good spec including sat nav and only 7,200 miles on the clock. Trade in price?.......£6,500!!!!!!! "retail is only a grand or so more" , "that's what the guide says its worth". My GFV on the finance is more than this 18 months and 12k miles down the line.......

That is so bad. I traded mine for a Focus ST and got a lot more than that and it was a 61 plate CAVE. Dealer was trying it on with you I think as mine was saying they had no problems shifting the vRS.

Same here for me, Been looking at swapping mine in for something bigger, Paid £5k for it earlier this year, Now WBAC and dealers are at £3.25k

Cars have always been money eaters, Its the way the business works :dull:

'Richer' , really?

vrskeith has, so right enough.

sparkly wanted to be old before his time, so he has as well.

Oi !!!!

It's the way business is supposed to work. Buy cheaper than you sell for, pay overheads and get a profit. Earn a living from it. Asking prices and offers are the starting points to negotiations.
