PD170(BMN) Issues - Chokes/Loses Power under 1500rpm

Featured Replies

Right guys,

Had my Octy about 3 and a half years, since having the DPF and EGR deleted, it's been fantastic, until recently... The car has lost it's power around 1500rpm and below, either when driving or trying to pull away, sometimes even cuts out/stalls. It still seems to go like the proverbial of a shovel, when around the 2000 - 3000 rpm range, then becomes a little hesitant again, which I noticed on the motorway.

It's racking up a decent bill, having had a full service with all filters, a new inlet manifold and N75 solenoid - even tested with a new MAF and a boost pressure sensor borrowed from another PD170 and recently. a brand new turbo - none of which have helped... So my question is, what the f**k is wrong with my Octy? :( :( :( :(

Also, the EGR has been tested with the blanking plate at the front, by the cooler and right off the manifold... Still no different, but as I say it's been mapped out. Could it be the inlet manifold flaps sticking?

Oh, I forgot to mention, no fault codes showing in VCDS/ODIS....  :(

From doing a bit of research, after this post, I have found a thread by Ben from Shark about the PD170 'stutter' - could this be what I have described?

Just down the road from you mate (Frizington), and mine does the same but albeit intermittent. I have had mine mapped but DPF and EGR still in place.

No faults on mine either but when it does it, it's very noticeable power disappears for a second then comes back. As for under 1500rpm had this when I went down to grange going uphill, needed 3rd to get up it!

Let me know if you get anywhere with it

Update:

It's still in the garage, possibly thinking of trying another ECU... The only thing is, the software has been spot on from 3rd August 2012 (when mapped).

My problem only started following repairing an EGR leak prior to the blanking plate, it was only 3 days after fixing it going up the motorway it started.

The map software is static/flash memory... it shouldn't just f**k up, else I'd have had the problem before now if it was software related.

Still thinking it is hardware, but having to faults it's like a dog chasing its tail - except not for fun!

Bill continues to increase... :-(

Yeah does sound strange that they think trying another ECU will have a better effect, but I suppose don't write it off just yet! I assume they are borrowing a known good one instead of just getting a replacement?

And it will have standard software so it will either be better or the remain the same, that way you will know won't you!

UPDATE UPDATE UPDATE!!!

The Octy is back on the road! :D

Check ch67 on VCDS. It should read 150... if it's 1000 then you need to replace the EGT sensor.

Nice work mate, how did you get to this fix??

I'll be checking mine shortly! Is this in 01 engine I take it?

Yeah it is mate.

I got the advice after a quick call to Darkside-Developments.

Excellent at least it's sorted, I'll give mine a go and see whats what!

Probably have to wait til tomorrow as it will need to be up to temp or driven? Is this a temp reading or a resistance value?

Sorry for on-going questions mate!

You can do the check from cold, it's a temp. If the sensor is faulty, it will read at 1000 straight away.

Hopefully this solves your issue!

Awesome cheers for posting this up and I will post back if this is indeed my problem also!

Thanks again

Sorry to hijack this thread but....

Having similar symptoms after a DPF/EGR delete I thought I would have a look.

In Engine - Measuring Blocks I looked at Channel 67 and the Temperature looked like this:

Well, it was switching from 141 to -42 and eventually settled on -42.

Anyone have any ideas? The engine was off for info.

Also, are EGR blanking plates easy to install on the PD170?

Which EGT sensor? Isnt there more than one?
