Remaps.....Custom or Serial...

Featured Replies

Didn't want to post in the Jabba forum, as it's more an open-ended question...

it's said that diesel's benefit less than petrols from a custom remapwhat's the advantage of a true custom remap over the std serial port offering?

Given that a serial remap is around the

It's not really either/or. Most custom mapping is done via the serial port also. It's just that custom maps involve RR time and tweaking to suit an individual engine. They probably start from the standard offering anyway, and take it from there.

Does this help?

not really..... :P

thought RR time would be required anyway.......

All greek to me, as they say.

need to get a vacuum tube replaced before then anyway..guess where i'm going tonight after work? ;)

Hi Gwilo.........My furbie vRS has been Superchipped, a gerenic re-map, I am happy with the results but I somtimes think there is something missing. I think I need a drive in one thats been custom re-mapped I'm sure there will be quite a differance...Andy

Nope. The off-the-shelf remaps are just that, 10 minutes with a laptop and off you drive. No tweaking or RR time involved. Of course you can buy an RR session to go with it, but it won't change your map.

Don't think their much point of custom mapping with diesels unless you have other mods and you want the MAX.

starts to make sense.........looks like some wheeler-dealer skills required to flog some gadgets. Custom sounds better....

In Jabba's case all custom mapping is now done via the OBD port.

So really there is no difference between them.

The real difference comes in the code uploaded....custom enables parameters to be changed relevant to the specific engine whilst generic, is a "typcial" map for all engines of the same type.

This is highlighted nicely by AG's post....whilst good something is missing.

And just as I've talked myself into a Custom remap, the jabbasport site is down for the foreseeable future.......natch!

Ah well, gives time to save pennies for end of october. :D

Yep......somthing is Missing but I can't put my finger on it. The car runs very well, the exceleration is fine, good overtaking speed through the gears, but it could do with somthing else....................But not sure what

Uhm, bigger injectors, bigger turbo, BFOFMIC maybe... :)

Also, I'm not sure what the status is today, but on some versions of ECU, Jabba still change a chip inside, although the programming is done via the serial port :)

I'm edging towards Jabba again for a tweak on mine once FMIC and new clutch is fitted :D Must give Mike a ring...

Don't think it needs any thing else in the way of Mods. I use a 160 air intake, i think it's the re-map it'self. The car always feels it needs just that little bit more..........You rev it to 4500 revs but it's telling you " give me some more"...............Hard to explain????

Thats probably your problem, revving to 4500 rev's, not much point going over 4000, and past 4500 rev's you maise well get out and walk :)

I drove a 'off the shelf' RICA map, which was very good, but then I had it tweaked a bit and it made a difference. The peak power went up a touch but the power delivery is very smooth and pulls in all gears to the red line.

Out of a couple of PD maps I have experience, I am most impressed with the RICA, but each to there own.

Don't think a "superchip" can be tweaked. It's a sort of "Standard Across the range" if you know what I mean...............But I will stand corrected

Gwilo - I found a re-map on Ebay for

I know somebody who had a tweaked Superchips map which was almost race-spec and that was rather bloody quick...
