Wheel Width Question.

Featured Replies

I'm looking at a set of wheels which are 6.5j, my current wheels are 7j, all other dimensions are identical. Will these fit on my Yeti and would my tyres swop straight over?

Don't know for sure. If "all other dimensions" includes the offset, then the only issue will be if the 6.5" is too narrow for the unstated tyre width.

As Ken says, it depends how narrow the rim becomes in comparison to the tyre. Half an inch shouldn't make much difference though.

has all the links and information you'll ever want to know about rim and tyre sizes.

In particular this tool:

can be used to make a comparison between sizes. Although it's a little confusing unless you're well versed in what the different numbers of wheel sizes actually means.

... aaand I found a new link:

http://www.tyresizecalculator.com/tyre-wheel-calculators/tyre-size-for-rim-size-width-calculator

This calculator seems to suggest you shouldn't put 225mm wide tyres on 6.5 rims, but if your tires are already 215 or less you should be fine.

They are 205/55/16's so should be OK then, thanks

That size was standard on a 6.5J on the Octy 1 Elegance, L&K and (v)RS estate in the UK, and on all RS in some markets. I don't see an issue now.

Thanks Ken, you've been really helpful.

Here's a link to a website with more info on wheels and tyres than I have ever seen elsewhere.  There are 4 pages and even has a calculator on one of them to compare the effects of changing wheel sizes and tyre sizes to keep the same (or near enough) rolling radius;

Hope this helps!!
